The heaviness of the leaves suggests overwatering. What kind of water, drainage and fertilizer are you using? I've seen plants that looked like that when people were growing in water-logged soil that doesn't drain well. This can be a problem when a small plant is put in a large pot. The plant can't absorb water from most of the medium so it sits surrounded by wet soil, which blocks oxygen movement. You can try potting in smaller pot, then repotting to the next larger size as it becomes root-bound. More work, but the plants thrive. This is all assuming you're over-watering. If you're not just ignore me.
