A male and female preflower is very different.

The males will have a mutiple little balls appear that eventually turn into clusters of pods.
A female starts out with one calyx at all the inner nodes. And by the time the second calyx's appear, the first calyx's will have 2 white pistils (hairs).
So, if you have clusters of "balls" and none of them have produced pistils yet, I can guarantee its a male.

Since it is your only plant, just let it grow until you know for sure. No harm will be done since there are no females around.
