Droopy plants and differing growth rates
Hi all,
first timer
Your Equipment:
.1) tube fluorescents, 40W
.2) 2-4" for most of the plants - a few shorter are further right now.
.3) regular shop light fixtures
.4) Is there a consistent fresh air supply? YES
.5) circulation from room - open much of the day time (some of the night now that we're on 12/12 - depends on when we go to bed)
.6) 40s I think, 6500K was 20/4 now 12/12 the past 2 days
Your medium:
.7) M.G. potting, very bottom has water-retention M.G. (about 1/4 to 1/3 of the soil at most)
.8) 2 and 4 gallon pots (some in each, what we got for free then cleaned)
.9) Jiffy 7s
Your nutrients and water:
10) tap - measured about 6 months back at just under 7
11) none
12) none
13) currently MG tomato fert, 5ml fert per gallon. it says to use 15mg per 1.5 gals... will be changing to a 1/2/1 type ratio bloom combo organic of maybe MG...
14) water only when getting dry, until runs out. will do a flush this weekend too before a reg feed.
15) not yet
16) likely stable, but no idea.
17) no idea on PH currently, was barely under 7 about 6 months ago.
18) early morn foliar feeding every 3 days or so
Your growroom:
19) Indoors
20) closet 2.5'x8' chock full
21) mid 70s generally, maybe as high as 80 on a really warm day (which are now past)
22) had fungus gnats, nearly all dead now and have prevention up so no more will be hatching.
Your strain:
23) no idea on strain
24) seeds
25) no idea for autoflower - been about 6 weeks so far, just started 12/12 lighting 2 days ago..
Questions:
1) should we be concerned about leaves that are crinkly? Not flat, but wrinkled leaves even when grown out. The veins don't grow as quickly as the growth of the leaves so they are all bumpy and uneven in their look and growth. Very odd, but the plants seem happy otherwise. I think this was caused because of a bug spray I used a couple weeks back - it burned a few spots on leaves and a couple edges, and nearly all the young leaves from when I sprayed grew wrinkled. How can I prevent this in the future if we have bug issues? What would have likely cause this? Too strong of a bug spray? Too much? Should we avoid spraying the baby leaves next time (if there is a need in the future)? Would ferts cause this possibly as well if foliar fed?
2) What should we do about droopy plants? Nothing different than non-droopy plants. Two are in the middle right where the ends of the lights are (two 2-bulb fixtures next to each other, and another set on the end of those) - right where the ends of the light fixtures meet so they have, well, slightly less light than others. But others in the middle are droopy too!
I'm not checking pH as most other plants I've grown with our water were fine and the tap water was nearly neutral when I checked a few months back. Soil is decent, and I flushed it a LOT when we first planted and I plan on doing again before the feed after next (big feed this weekend, then another the week after that which will have a flush beforehand to make sure there are no salts left in there. yay for a shower near to where they are!).
Also, I've not needed to water them much. We water until they JUST start to run off into the tray and then don't water again until they start to get light. Because we're in veg still, they don't seem to need a LOT of water I'm guessing. I'm just wondering if I'm guessing right. We did JUST change the lighting schedule (two weeks later than planned since we had a few things come up in life).
3) some of the plants have exploded with growth, while others are super slow with their growth. Although some have different pot sizes, there are slow ones in both the 2gal and 4ish gal pots while fast ones in those as well! Feeding is the same, topping was the same for them, lighting and heat the same, water the same... they are spread thoughout the closet! They also all came from the same bag of my husband's meds (possibly 1 from an earlier bag but we're fairly sure that one never cracked shell) so their genetics should be the same too I'd think (as much as seeds from the same plant or so can be). One especially is barely growing. One other did that, but all of a sudden that one has exploded in growth as well...
4) Identification: at each leaf node, there are little skinny hairs that grow on the sides that at first tricked me into thinking they were signs of them being girls. But they are still fully in veg cycle and they are on all the plants (can't be all 19 being girls! Just can't from bag seed, can it???). All are green, too. I was thinking they might be the start of the flowers (whether male or female), but not so much anymore. But what are these super skinny, 1/4" long leaf-hangers-on? Again, they are on each side of the leaf nodes and look almost like green pistils.
5) What would cause the leaves to get really dark but slightly (VERY slightly) lighter right by the veins? Just want to make sure I don't overdo or under do something.
