To flower or not to flower?
Hello all!
So, this is my first time growing, and I've done some studying WAY before I started this grow, but there's just one thing I can't really figure out.
I planted my seed in 5/26/13, and now it's about a foot tall, looking really sturdy. I still haven't gotten any signs of sex yet after TWO MONTHS! Is this normal?
Also, not all the branches have grown out yet, only the bottom second~third node's branches are somewhat "fully grown?". Should I put it into flowering now? I heard that putting a black plastic bag over the plant for the 12/12 cycle also works, is this true?koreannuke Reviewed by koreannuke on . To flower or not to flower? Hello all! so, it's outdoors, right? I will show when it's ready. Forcing it is possible but what will you gain?

Yes, this is outdoor grow. I only have one plant this year since I just wanted to experiment with it.

I live in Southern California, so the weather really isn't a problem for me. I water it once a day with a full tall glass. For some reason, even the branches aren't really coming out like they should be.
I've seen outdoor plants that were started from seed and they're twice as bushy as my :O I fim'd my too.

yes, that can be normal not to flower yet. The flowering time depends on the strain and the length of day/night.
As far as the condition of your plants, without photos and more information about the strain and grow methods your guess is as good as ours.

As far as your plant being smaller than others you've seen there are many factors that could explain this.
Strain, indica/ sativa, growing medium, fertilizer, Grower experience and Growing method like topped, supercropped or LST for example.
As for the sex of the plant.
If you have access to a jewelers loop or microscope try looking at the nodes. You may be able to see pre flowers. Some strains will show pre flowers visible to the naked eye while others require magnification.
One last note. Your plant is not fully grown until you harvest it. Keep in mind the flower stretch where you can expect your plant to double in size. Here is a tip for encouraging more branching without topping the plant. Simply anchor the top end of the plant with some twine so that the top few nodes are closer to the ground than some of the middle nodes on the main stalk. The plant will be fooled into thinking the middle nodes are now the top of the plant and concentrate it's growth on the new false top. Once you are satisfied with the new branching simply release the top and it will straighten out and resume growing as the top would.
