First Time Grower - HELP PLEASE
Hey everybody, im a first time grower, and i feel like i have no idea what im doing. Its sitting in the back of my closet on top off two shoeboxes (to get closer to the lamp) and there are 2 5000k CFLs in the lamp. but the problem is that i think the lights are only 495 lumens each. I will upgrade soon but thats what im at now. It will officialy be 1 week old on 7/22/13 Monday. its probably about 3 inches tall. I have not added any nutes yet and have just been watering it everyother day with just tap water. (yea ik i should probably use distilled water). I am also living with my mother, i am mid 30's and im trying to grow this without my mother finding out because she doesnt appreciate it. But she smokes to, so i can win her over once i harvest. So if there are any ideas that you guys can give me please feel free. O yea.. and im on a tight budget.

seems pretty quiet in here?
you shouldn't have to feed any nutes for a bit cos the soil has nutes in it.
pot up 2 a bigger pot in a Cpl of weeks and you will more nutes in new soil.
unless plant shows signs of yellowing then tap water is fine.
your not gonna get much bud with those lights tho m8.
blucky!

First Time Grower - HELP PLEASE
wow thank you so much for replying to my post so quick i appreciate it. but anyways, im using Hyponex Scotts Potting Soil. And will be purchasing a 3-2-1 Fert soon along with a PH tester and PH Up. And What lights do you suggets? Are those fine for the first 3 weeks? And For the first 5 days it would change drastically in just a couple hours but now it seems like its not doing anything, i mean i guess the leaves are getting bigger, and i think i see 2 more stems/leaves coming in between those so.. i mean what do you think?

I have used the great outdoor lite in conjunction with indoor lights as an experiment, low and behold...colas. just need to find a little hiding space for a few hours a day that mom won't find it.

Good luck with your grow. There is a learning curve and you have to ride it from beginning to end, no shortcuts for experience. Lights will raise the temperature and you will not want to have any higher temp than 80º. So take that into consideration while you're hiding your grow op. As your on a budget I'd look into using a couple of 23 watt or 42 watt cool white for the time being. Later on when they flower you'll want to change the lamp color to warm white.

Congrats Mighty D Young, You have taken the first step. Great advice by all so far. I will throw in my $.02 as well.
First off, small plants use very little water. Too much water and your plant will die. I water my seedlings every 3-4 days. Also if using tap water allow it to sit out for at least 24 hrs.
Seeing as how you are on a tight budget stick to the cfl's for veg state. Maybe up the lumens and add a reflector to focus the light towards the plant. Since you have no clue to the sex of the plant yet investing in flowering lights may be a bit premature. A timer to run your lights would be a great investment as well. I run 20 hrs. on and 4 hrs. off during veg.

I guess I'm the resident CFL expert so I'll chime in.
The 5000k lights your using won't really yield any results that aren't sub par, CFL's range from 1900k to 7500k, the most common spectrums being 2.7k 5k and 6.5k, 5k is a neutral light, for veg you want bright white, or the 6.5k's, and when your plants get bigger you want the warm 2.7k's. 5k is just like a halogen which is why we don't suggest using halogens to grow, the light doesn't benefit your plant.
Switch bulbs, and you'll see alot more progress

First Time Grower - HELP PLEASE
Thank you guys so much for all of the tips, i realllyy appreciate it. It grew alot over the night, as today marks 1 week. The leaves got alot bigger. But heres another question, what are those 2 leaves that are under the jagged ones. And what are the names for these leaves? There are the jagged leaves, then there are the normal leaves which were the first to sprout.

Those oval leaves are embryonic leaves or cotyledons. They will wither and die off. Leave them alone and they will fall off on their own.
