I like Metal Halide for flowering. I quit using HPS several years ago.

Dual 400 CMH (ceramic metal halide bulbs) 4000k.
Metal Halide bulbs are available in Kelvin temps going from 3000k to over 7000K
    I like 6000k-7000K for vegging - 4000k for flowering.
HPS kelvin temps are pretty much just 2100k to 2700k

    (I'm in HPS rehab:jointsmile

Which ght gives you the soft spongy buds an which gives you the hard buds an I have a 400 watt hps already on hand an I lights mix that with all 12 of the blue cfls I have what do you thank about that will that be ok for a first grow ?

I started out as a hard core CFL guy. I got a taste of HPS and MH and I quickly switched. I use 600w MH earthgrow with 16 125w 6500k CFL's to veg a 10x10, which handles roughly 60 plants in various stages, I flower with 6 600w HPS earthgrows and I use 32 125w CFL's for supplimental lighting to flower a 20x30, now those CFL's are a 50/50 blend of 2300k and 6500k, my nuggets are dense, but not rock hard.

I should also mention my setup is pure hydro.

I started small, one step at a time, and I suggest you do the same. As far as soft and spongy nuggets vs rock hard nuggets, its alot more than JUST lighting bro. Lighting has a fair bit to do with the final outcome, but not everything. Yes, what you have now should be just fine for a first grow, I could probably do a max of about 6 plants with that, maybe 8 depending on how often you rotate.

I only have seven an I have no problem with rotating them if I have to. I'm going for soft spongy buds is there any thing else I can do to achieve this .

I'd first ask why. The only difference is weight. Aside from that, if you just keep them under a MH you should achieve that, but your going to get less weight overall for the same amount of power costs, nutrient costs and time put in -

All feels the same after a pass through the grinder or two. Shoot for tight nugs, not spongy, same cost, more weight
