Newbie just about killed all his plants. help please!

What about the leaves that are clearly dead?
I heard/read somewhere that the plant puts alot of energy into trying to repair itself, so if a leaf is completely dead, its wasting its energy that it could be using for other growth?
Does that make any sense?

The plant will take the energy that's in the dead leaves back into the plant they will dry up turn yellow and fall off. Worry about the new growth it will tell you how the plants are doing.
