I've been adding tap water with pH of about 8.0, but not until after I adjust the pH down to 6.5 .
I don't think water pH is a problem unless my pH meter is garbage. I haven't checked soil pH or runoff pH (never thought about the runoff pH)... but the local grow store here says soil pH test kits are very inaccurate and pretty useless.

I've got a real light up above. Home-made 10 bulb T5 HO setup (54 watt bulbs) with reflector and adjustment straps . I've got both 6500k and 2500k T5 bulbs to fit the fixture plus spare bulbs. I don't think the plant is big enough for it yet though. My plan was to grow a mother plant from seed, then take a few clones and keep the healthiest 6 of them and grow them to flowering and harvesting using the big light.
