First Grow Problem!
This should serve as an example of why new growers should forget about PH levels unless they are using hydroponics for growing medium. I even discourage that since its a big investment as compared to a pot full of dirt and a watering bucket and some nutrients. With dirt it isn't necessary to check the PH levels all the time - I only use my PH kit for checking on my 'mother' plant which may be in the same pot for up to a year. I use it for supplying clones. Cheap PH meters are at best junk. The moisture meter function is useful but forget the idea of a useful PH meter for $7 - ain't gonna happen.
