Need advice for people who think weed = heroin. Help Please

Hi Guys

So I have a bit of a problem.

I have had major back surgery in the last 2 weeks and using cannabis to medicate. There is nothing like it , relieves my constipation, allows me to go to sleep , no side effects prevents me from taking a large amount of painkillers.

Anyway , due to the nature of my surgery I have to stay with my parents. They are south african indian and have been brought up in the mindset that marijuana is a terrible drug equal to ecstasy , heroin etc and i should never ever be doing it.

They caught me yesterday and lost it (im 25 years old). They took my weed from me and want me to never touch it again. This is making my recovery much much harder.

What are the best resources to show my parents the medicinal benefits of marijuana and how it really isnt bad for your body at all?

So here's some help.

If they are worried that you will become an anti-social drug fiend, show them this;

If they are concerned about habituation, addiction, overdose, etc., show them these;

And should they drag out the Nahas & Latour 1992 hatchet job, this;

True dat!
But it has recently been shown, that people who smoke cannabis have less lung problems than people who smoke nothing at all.

Think about that!
Healthier lungs than total non-smokers.
That's huge!
This is definitely not the case with tobacco smokers!

That should get you started.

Once they see that it is rather innocuous, you can break the news about it's healing potential.

My dear friend is still alive after 14 months with an aggressive Astrocytoma thanks to Cannabis.
The scans show no growth!

That should get you going.

so my parents came back with "you are just using these so you can get high.Have you looked at the negative effects of marijuana?"

The main negatives they bring up are

- when marijuana is smoked it releases toxins worse then cigarettes (my rebuttal to this was a vaporiser which i already have (da vinci vape) )

- can lead to mental health issues ( i have been taking anti depressants for the past 3 years....however weed has lessened my anxiety...to the point of it being gone but i cant prove that to them)

It seems like there mind has already been made up and the negatives of using marijuana outweigh the positives

Those sites and articles are nothing but pure propaganda with none of the dire "facts" substantiated.

It seems like there mind has already been made up and the negatives of using marijuana outweigh the positives

I think a more accurate assessment would be that they have fallen into the trap of the Prohibitionists who cry that "cannabis is Reefer Madness" - with no apparent hope (or willingness) of digging their way out.

Conspiracies proven that big Pharma is at the bottom of this. Follow the $$. Very difficult to change the hearts & minds of peeps who are already convinced that it's a "Bad Drug". From the "Just Say No" campaigns (Reagan Era) as well as bombarded with countless hours & hours of misinformation. Reefer Madness in the 1930's was a smear campaign of cannabis. Placed into a Schedule I drug status (experimental only) in the same class as heroin & methamphetamine btw brought to you by our Nazi Friends. as suggested previously it seems they are set in their ways

i dont live with them..im just staying here for the next 5 weeks as i had major back surgery...this is why i want to medicate.

oh well..i guess it is how it is..hopefully others can benefit from this thread as well.
