My first SERIOUS grow...am I getting in over my head?

Just to cut to the chase...I have 87 plants going, and a few more I am trying to get germinated, they are being stubborn. I Started April 25 with 30 Pinewarp plus a few others, and I also have 57 HSO Trainwreck going. I am going completely organic except for the fact that most of the soil is store bought. I have a clove of organic garlic growing in each container. All of the PW's germinated and are going good, about a foot tall after a month. the Trainwreck was hard to germinate. But the ones that have germed are going strong.

My background is that I grew a crop one time back in '99 from some seeds I got from Emery when he had a shop on Hastings in Vancouver. I pretty much messed that crop up from just not caring too much and being careless. but i did end up with about 2 pounds from what should have been twenty pounds. this was up in Alaska and I was growing outdoors.

I have decided that I am tired of being poor, I quit my job as a carpenter, and I am going balls deep into this project. I would like to say I would be satisfied with a mediocre crop considering how motivated I have become, my sense of purpose is off the scale, I've even started a Japanese-style garden along a trail with all sorts of plants, veggies, and fruits going, plus bamboo, exotic peppers, etc. But the PW and the TW is what I am really concentrating on, all the other stuff gets tap water.

Anyway, if anyone is interested how this turns out...and my experiences along the way...this is my thread and I will share my knowledge as I obtain it...

Just curious, but are you growing these indoors or out?

My first SERIOUS grow...am I getting in over my head?

Outdoors...to update, we had a bad thunderstorm, 6 inches of rain in 2 hours believe it or not. Trees were falling down, power was out, water was out. And it started at 2am. So I am out in the dark trying to save plants with a poncho on and it is pouring buckets. I am carrying 5 gal buckets with plants 2 at a time down a trail to a tarped off area for protection, putting seedlings in the house, and lightning is cracking like a warzone, we had 4 trees go down just from the rainfall. The next morning, all the plants are drooped over on the top edge of the buckets...they looked like shit, but now, 2 days of drying out later, they have grown a few inches and the trunks are noticeably thicker and stiffer.

In other news...IMPORTANT FOR OUTDOOR GROWERS...I just now realized that squirrels love garlic cloves, I went out this morning and had two plants dug up, the squirrel was after the garlic. Some of the garlic I had planted elsewhere was dug up also, so I had to go thru the plants and take out all the garlic, some of which was sprouted. Lesson learned. BTW, the reason I know it was a red squirrel is that I actually saw it in the bucket digging.

I Don't think you're in over your head. Sometimes you just have to go big in life. Even as a beginner the more you plant the more likely it is you'll get something out of it. I regret the years I started out with a few plants and after losing a few to this and losing a few to that I ended up with NADA. The only thing is that its easier to give your full attention to a few plants then to 100. Keep us updated tho

Update....mosquitos are brutal right now, temps close to 100, it's hard to work outside. Realized yesterday some of the plants were infested with bugs in the soil, so I covered the soil with sand to smother them, hopefully. May have to resort to harsher measures soon, but everything is good with the leaves for the most part. The plants range anywhere from 2 inches to 2 feet, so I think I will be able to sex some of them soon and start cloning. We'll see. I am hoping that the really big ones aren't males.

Infested with what kind of bugs? Not all bugs are bad bugs you know. If its the beetle larvae that burrow in the ground, from what I've been told they feed on your rooting system. Don't see bugs and automatically panic though... in nature they are all there for a reason

Another bad storm 2 nights ago, not as bad as the first tho. Plants are all okay. Realized on June 1 that my one G13 Diesel Auto Fem is already flowering, and only started the germ process on 4-25, so it's 5 weeks old and 2 feet tall. Don't know if that will turn out good or bad yet.

I don't know what kind of bugs they are, the mosquitos are so severe I can't stand to be out there. I just sprayed them down with my homemade stuff with added Neem and covered them with sand. I am going to uncover the sand today and see what the soil looks like and go from there. I want to start cloning soon but I have to get all the problems fixed first. All the plants are really healthy, I just don't like potential problems.

Anyone have experience with G13 Diesel Auto Feminized, or any auto that flowers that fast? I was hoping it would get a lot bigger before flowering, but at least I will have some smoke soon.

June 6--had to go on a killing spree--2 squirrels and a rabbit...went to check on the plants this morning and 7 were dug up, 3 destroyed, including my flowering G13 Diesel Auto Fem. Hung them upside down around the area to deter future invaders. Gonna get some Shake-A-Way as well. Pretty disgusted right now.
