If you are worried about heat florescent lights will work just fine. Yield may not be what it would be under a HPS. They are also easier on the electric bill. I use a pair of T5 four bulb 2' fixtures with 6500K bulbs for vegging with excellent results. I just ordered 8 3000k lights for summer time flowering. The HPS light is way too hot for summer time where I live - in winter it helps heat the house. If my experiment goes well I may just use the T5's year round and save a few bucks on the electric bill. If I get some time tomorrow I'll post a few pics of some young plants I have under one of the T5 veg lights. At four weeks since cloning they are very bushy and about 1' high - and of course very beautiful. They show no signs of 'reaching' for light - the T5 lights supply all the light they need.

At any rate any light system is going to be a large part of your cash layout to grow good bud. Cheap lights = cheap yield.
