Yay!!! My first sprout popped to life while I was at work!!!
Here's my plan, and you guys tell me what you think:
First week:
Floros only, 20 on, 4 off.
Let the plants adjust and get used to being little plants.
Maybe turn on 1000W HPS every now and then for an hour or two.
Second week:
Move floros away to background positions.
1000W HPS on 20/4.
A few weeks from now I need to go on vacation (discussed in another thread), so I'll probably back the plants down to 18/4 during this week (hence why I'm putting them on 20/4, otherwise I'd have them on 24/0, but I think the shock of switching from 24/0 to 18/4 for one week out of the blue is a little much for the little darlings).
Veg them for a bit, get 'em plump, and then flip to 12/12.

veg em for a bit yes, but do 18/6 or 24/0. I would just start with the 1000 watter far away.

I have a 70 watt HPS that I might put in during the "tiny little plant" phase, and then haul out the big gun later. If only to help cut down on my power bill, I try not to leave that sucker on when I don't need to.

Hey Darpin where can you buy automated light switches that can be set to like 20/4 or 18/6 hours at a time. i was looking for one but couldnt find it? Maybe like an electronics store like radio shack?

Walmart has them for sure. In Arizona it's the same isle as the extension cords and light bulbs. They look like this (attached). Just make sure you get one with a ground plug (center prong below the two blades) if you can. Not the biggest problem if you can't, but it's a nice safety feature and pretty important if you get or have an HPS system.

You set what hours you want it on. Like mine goes off at midnight, and then back on at four in the morning. So that's twenty hours on, and four off.
