    1. Paper-Towel Method:

MATERIALS: Paper-towels (at least 2 sheets), 2 plates/dishes (or similar object), warm water.

    PROCEDURE:

It involves placing the seed(s) onto a damp paper-towel (which is placed on a plate/dish, or similar object), and covering them with another damp paper-towel.
For best results, use water that is a bit warmer than room-temperature (to compensate for any drop in temperature), and cover the plate/dish with another plate/dish (to prevent heat from escaping, as well as protect the seeds from light).

Also, using more than one sheet of paper-towel above and below the seed(s) will yield better results, as well as adding more warm water to the paper-toweling/bottom dish before covering the whole arrangement with the optional second plate/dish.

WARNING: It is imperative that the seed(s) are removed from the paper-toweling as soon as the taproot(s) has/have emerged; If the seed(s) is/are left to soak for too long, delicate micro-roots can be torn when the seed(s) is/are removed from the paper-toweling, which will temporarily retard germination/growth as well as stress the plant (which could possibly result in an unfavorable male/hermaphrodite).

A lot of seeds are dead and wont germinate. This happens for all plants, not just cannabis. This is why you germinate them in one place, and then plant the germinated seeds (soon to be sprouts). Otherwise you waste a lot of pots planting seeds that wont do shit. If you have a germination rate of 50%, you're doing wonderful. If someone gives you some seeds from an old shoebox from ten years ago, you're lucky if 5% - 10% of them will do anything.

Not only that, but a lot of seeds are from screwed up plants that accidentally got pollenated, or by some kid who didn't know what he was doing.

There's a world of difference between your "buddie's" seeds, and one from a reputable seed bank. Not always, but that seems to be the case more often than not.

I check mine every few hours, and the minute I see them split with the little white edge getting ready to come out, into the soil it goes. Never leave them long enough for the root to fully expose itself. After a week and a half, anything that was going to germinate would have, and beyond that, whatever seeds might come to life are pretty retarded, and I wouldn't want them anyway. Go on a picnic, dig a hole, and plant them all. Maybe one will pop to life and you'll get a chance to read about the police finding a cannabis plant in your neighborhood. :-)

In short, be happy any of them germinated, and take care of them.

Yeah, that means you should be happy any of them germinated. If you do any gardening, you learn real quick a handy ratio:

1/3 of your seeds will be germinate and be strong about it.
1/3 of those plants will live past infancy.
1/3 of those will be strong and will give good crops.

It seems a little different in the the cannabis realm, because these plants are so damn hardy, and because the care people put into them is so damn sincere and heartful. But the point still stands that not every seed turns into a plant, and not every seedling turns into a powerhouse that you want to clone.

Bag seed can be very unreliable but sometimes you get some very good breeds from bag seed. I have used bag seed for years and I usually have damn near 80% germinate every time. another thing i have learned over the years has been that plants have emotions too. they grow very poor and weak when they are all alone so i usually plant 3 or 4 in one spot to keep them happy and strong. good luck with your grow. Peace
