How do I know if my plant good and is ready to top and if its a female growing in pot

My plant in a pot it's alive out door all natural a friend tossed a seed in yard and a three inch plant appears so I transplant it In a black plastic pot I wanna kno what it is a male/female and when to top it for a lot of buds

we all want to know if they are male or female but they dont want us to know until they want to show it. young plants are sorta shy that way. they wait until they get bigger, closer to flowering time at the earliest. it also depends on the strain and other conditions. there is a lot of good reading around here so start searchin.
