Next time someone thinks poorly about Cannabis or Medical Marijuana, show them this!!

Very interesting post. I'm a big researcher myself. Before I ever do pretty much anything, I always research the crap out of it first and learn as much as I can. My mother has been having very bad anxiety lately and almost always has trouble sleeping at night. I might try to get her to try some marijuana. Do you think it would help her? I can write more about the situation elsewhere. I didn't want to hijack your post lol.

I really appreciate this post especially that you recognized the gateway drug aspect... You put my experience in words for me!

Anxiety and sleep I have problems with also... AND find comfort in research as well.

If your mother has an open mind about MJ then it really might work out well for her. If she has a negative view on darn pot smokers then who knows really. I have to smoke to sleep at night, I find it very relaxing and calming. Good luck!

Many variables in that question. Perhaps focus more on a certain area.

Here is a study that outlines optical density apoptosis in glioma cells

?9-Tetrahydrocannabinol induces apoptosis in C6 glioma cells

However, one brownie has been known to kill a few brain cells lol, seriously, very cool study! Peace

I have to address that statement.
I'm quite sure that Esteban was joking.
You might want to look into the "it has been shown to kill brain cells" myth.

" One of these myths was that marijuana damages brain cells, and that this damage causes memory loss, cognitive impairment, and learning difficulties. They report that this claim is based on a study by Heath et. al (1980), in which structural changes in several regions of the brain were found in two rhesus monkeys exposed to THC, the active chemical in marijuana. These changes occurred primarily in the hippocampus, the area of the brain known to play an important role in learning and memory, which suggested that exposure to THC in humans would yield similar negative results. However, according to Morgan and Zimmer, in order to achieve these damaging results, doses of up to 200 times the psychoactive dose in humans would have to be given. Even studies in which subjects were given 100 times the human dose failed to cause any structural impairment of the brain. Additionally, in a more recent study of rhesus monkeys by Slikker et. al (1992), in which the monkeys were exposed to the equivalent of 4-5 joints per day through face-mask inhalation for an entire year, seven months later there was no observed change in hippocampal structure, cell size, cell number, or synaptic configuration. As a result of these studies, Morgan and Zimmer concluded that the claim that marijuana causes physiological damage to brain cells is incorrect." --Jordan Levy

An early experiment, designed to prove that cannabis is harmful, force fed cannabis smoke to monkeys.
    To the exclusion of oxygen!
They did indeed find brain damage, but it was caused by oxygen deprivation, not cannabis.
We now have more recent trials that actually show repair and promotion of brain cells.

"While it has been known for more than 100 years that cannabis does no discernible damage to brain cells, only in the past ten years have reports demonstrated a direct neurological benefit.

The results support the anecdotal claims of thousands of patients, contradict decades of anti-marijuana propaganda used to prop up the foundering Drug War and suggests more social benefits to be had by legalizing cannabis for adults.

Because many social drugs, including opiates, alcohol, nicotine and cocaine, have been shown to suppress the formation of new brain cells when used chronically, cannabis had been suspected of doing so in a form of ??guilt by association.? However, researchers in Israel found that cannabinoid drugs are helpful in cases of nerve damage and trauma. The US Department of Veteran Affairs found similar results working with veterans suffering from PTSD in the 1980s and suppressed the results.

Now, a team at the University of Saskatchewan department of psychiatry in Saskatoon, led by Xia Zhang, may have found evidence the drug promotes new brain cells to form in the hippocampus region of the brain, which reduces anxiety and depression. Zhang and his colleagues wrote in the November issue of the Journal of Clinical Investigation that cannabis appears ??to be the only illicit drug whose capacity to produce increased ... neurons is positively correlated with its (anti-anxiety) and anti-depressant-like effects.? The paper was posted online at the Journal??s website." - From HighTimes

Little bits of bullshit still stuck in peoples brains show how effective the smear campaign has been.
Lets help clean that crap out with actual research and education.

Summary: Marijuana does NOT kill brain cell, quite the contrary!

Love your ressearch, and thank you for doing it so we don't have to re-invent the wheel. I would like to throw something on for peopal to chew on a bit. I work as an alternative energy practitioner, mainly working within the etheric body with beliefs and thought patterns that shape our reality. I am finding myself having to help people reverse the ' just say no' beliefs that they have been raised on - they have this belief as you describe above - then smoke pot anyway - and this screws them up bigtime, causing the beliefs to become true within thier reality. Meaning, because they believe pot makes them lazy - it does.....
I think this is a REAL issue as we recognize pot as a medicine - we also have to work on subconscious beliefs that we have about it so that it doesn't manifest within our lives.
