1000w LED - Rough Ideas on how for to place from seedlings?

    Hey all, first post here.

I recently acquired a 1000w LED light. I have tried the "feel the heat" with your hand technique, and they seemed safe at around 6 inches. This still led to heat/light bleaching and a few unhappy plants. I have since moved it to 18 inches

Has anyone used a 1000w LED or can make a recommendation as to how far away I should place it? The thing is BRIGHT!

Most people start seeds with flouro. Your light at 6 inches is much too close because plant height will be stunted. Plants grow elongated stems when light is weak and far away, and stems are very short when light is bright and up close. You're going to be using a lot of electricity just for getting seedlings to start. Any way you could use a flouro? If you need the 1000, then put it several feet away, like maybe 5 feet. If the stems start to appear elongated, weak, and like the plant might fall over, then move the light closer.

Thanks for the advice polishpollack. I use the term "seedlings" loosely, they are almost 3 weeks old now. I switched them off fluoros once they were established.

i have 340w and 600w and i have to keep them both no closer than maybe 18 inches. the 600w would cook off 3 week old plants just like an hid would but not with heat. the 340 sits about 3 feet up until they get to be close to 3-4 weeks then i start bringing it down. 1000 watt must be like hitting them with a laser. keep it high off them until you get them to flowering then you can a little closer. with that light youd need co2 to get much closer than 18-24 inches. you could also try a diffuser(like a couple layers of window screen) between the light and the plants.
