    DOT Drug testing

I have a drug test today for pre-employment. It's being done by Quest Labs.

I took a marijuana only drug test this morning when I first woke up, and the line was there but faint. I'm sure I'll pass, but is there a difference with DOT and regular that they will consider a faint line positive or otherwise require further testing? I'm drinking Gatorade all day today and will be waiting a few hours before I go in today to take it.

I should be good. I'm 6'7" and really heavy, like 350 (mostly fat lolz), but the last time I smoked was the day after Christmas and before that it was Thanksgiving. I was around someone else who smoked for a few days... but I never was able to smell it and I didn't get a contact high and all the studies I found about positives and contact highs seem to not cause enough to test positive in passive situations (unless in a small hotboxed area, obviously). Anyways, I should be clear right?

The line being faint will be treated in a DOT test like any other test right, a line being pass? I'm just worried that they'll do that gas test thing and find I'll be higher than 15 cutoff.

Most home tests carry the same cutoff limit as the DOT test (50 ng for the initial screening).

Even though their cutoffs numerically differ, a 50 ng assay screen is functionally equivalent to the 15 ng GC/MS. To find out how and why, hit the Forum Search button, using the terms "functionally equivalent metabolites".

A faint line is still a negative. Even if an untrained tech were to misinterpret a faint line as a "non-negative", and sent the sample off for confirmation, the sample would still come back as a negative.

Thanks for the reply, and help. Luckily though I have a few extra days. I didn't receive the Chain of Custody form I need in the mail from my employer to take it and when I arrive at my new work area (a good 6 hour drive away) I will be taking it then, on a Monday. So I'll feel good about the extra four days to remove any extra.

Is it normal that the line be fainter than the control? It always seems like that line is dark but the drug test line is faint. I'll be buying another test Sunday and double checking. I'm like 98% sure I'd pass because of the time that has passed since I last smoked and the fact before that, I only smoked 1-3 days a week but only about a gram a week when I did. It's just the "omg.. I'm smoked a while ago, I'm going to fail" jitters. Also the fact that since it is a DOT, if I were to fail, it would be reported for up to three years to other employers in my profession.

Its an often occurance. It means nothing. Even synthetic urine controls (which contain no drug metabolites at all) can produce a faint line on an assay.

If youre still worried and unconvinced, you can always go for substitution (with either a clean persons sample or synthetic). Subbing is easy on a DOT test because you wont be observed. Observed collections only occur if the donor had been suspected of tampering, or if the test is a follow-up/return to duty test from a previous postive result (after the donor had completed the SAP process, as required by the DOT regulations).

Yeah I've often heard that DOT tests were difficult, but the fact that they do the confirmation test, makes them the easiest to pass. Though that was just their opinion... Either way, I'll be good. I'm going into dormant mode which will help keep me from burning extra fat.

But, I do wonder since this job does require a lot of workout and walking sometimes up to five miles a day more than once a week, what will happen then? I see you have mentioned doing a search for those kinds of things but when I do I get over three hundred results. I'm just wondering if I start to burn fat... will that make me test positive in a future date? I'm concerned about this because as per DOT regulations, I could be randomly picked for a random screening with almost no notice. Not to mention post-accident testing which is automatic, or if I get a work place issue (even if I had nothing to do with it). I guess I'm trying to push the notion that I'll be subject to testing frequently because of both DOT and company policy.

Will losing this weight make me subject to fail a test even though I wouldn't have smoked for months, up to a year, after testing negative now?

No. Not as long as youve remained abstained and all of your home tests had consistently tested negative using the first urination of the day.

Well it has been two and a half weeks with no word, so it seems like I'm in the clear (unless they were really backed up for some reason) Going to assume I have passed.

Yeah it's been enough time. Only once have I had someone take a month to get a positive confirmation back.
