SETUP:

2 x DJ Shorts True Blueberry
2 x UK Cheese
1 x Platinum Bubba Kush
1 x Skywalker OG
All were 6 to 9 inch clones

5 x 5 x 7 ft. grow tent lined with mylar

10 x 23 watt 2700k CFLs
3 x 23 watt 6500k CFLs (these are kept about 6 to 8" from the canopy, and most are on Monster can home made reflectors)

1 x 6 inch inline intake fan (340 cfm)
1 x 6 inch inline exhaust fan (340 cfm)
With no restrictions, this will turn over 100% of the air almost 2 times per minute

1 small fan inside blowing across the pots and plants.

Pots are .91 gal square baskets full of holes all over the sides to aid in soil drying and getting air to the roots (the idea is kinda like an air pot). It is lined with landscape fabric to keep the soil in.

I am using Fox Farms Ocean Forest. This is my first grow with FF and am hoping for a marked improvement over past grows. I have always used bagged Supersoil from my local H Depot store and really like the stuff, but after a very bad root gnat problem, I am not using it again.

I had 1 DJ SHORT, and 1 UK CHEESE go into shock after planning the clones in FF, but they pulled through and look great after 24 hrs.

I am LSTing all of them, I topped the UK CHEESE, and 1 branch on the BUBBA. I am trying to FIM one of the DJ SHORTS.

Watered today. The pots seem to be working very good, the soil was dry about 1 inch down, and from there down, it was dry almost 1 inch from the sides. I know that it is good to let the top dry out 1 inch, but should I let the sides get that dry? Anyone?
Roots look good, not as long as I would have thought using Fox Farms, but they are very thick. Maybe slowed down a lil due to the LST I am doing. Not to mention, the topping, and the one I tried to FIM.
It is a lil weird to have most everything growing horizontal.
I will try to take new pics tomorrow.

I think the reason nobody is saying anything is because you've been around awhile, you've commented on tons of posts and you've seen some GREAT grows.

In return, you build this. I'm not trying to hate, and I KNOW its coming off that way, but if your going to use vertical lighting, use it properly, if your going to use net pots, then go with a DWC or drip system, if your going to grow in soil, use at least 3 gallon pots - and if your going to LST, use buckets made for it, or make your own holes (only takes a total of 30 seconds if you stack all the buckets together).

You're also vegging with flowering lights. You've got the reverse order for veg stage for full spectrum. Using pots with holes in them are NOT NEEDED when using a proper soil mixture (or soiless mixture)

Um... Using the pots your using, your plants will never achieve proper growth because the roots are always in search of water. If its dryer near the edges, guess where the roots stay?

I guess that about sums it up.

I can tell that you're learning, and thats good. But don't start growing ghetto with the extension cords and crap, it's a fire hazard (really)

Thanks LR, I for one don't mind constructive criticism. I have a few grows under my belt, but I am trying something that is very different then I have done before. I am trying to do some trial and error, experimenting if you will, all the time having next to no budget to work with. I do realize that the lighting is far from optimal, and that the light spectrum should be flipped. I am planning on transplanting to 5 gal pots at 3 or 4 weeks.
That is what I wanted to know on the roots and dry soil.
I don't have extension cords, only the cords running the lights. the lights are hanging by chains, and all elec is wired into j boxes except for the small fan I am using to run over the plants, it is plugged directly into the wall.
Any idea on the deficiency? I am using fox farms OF and have never had this deficiency show up before of other soils.
