Grow room question..

I've been toying around with starting a grow room indoors. I've got a area 55" long by 30" deep.. Height is about 78" tall.. This would be a first time grow and I've noticed on many grows people start off with more than they can handle and or have room for. How many plants from start to finish in this space would be reasonable? The strain would possibly be ak-48's. Thank you for taking the time to read and help someone getting started! Solitaire

I appreciate the link. I've been trying to be resourceful and answer my own questions with that link and some recent goodies I just ordered! I first came across Jorge Cervantes box set of dvd's then followed it up with his growers bible and his Grow basics book in case the bible was a bit over my head.. I've learned so much and I'm pretty pumped but I just cant seem to see where to find a specific answer to square footage per plant. Maybe I'm over complicating this.. It might be I've learned all this info and can't put any of it to use!! I've been skimming through these books and forums maybe I need to start reading these books for start to finish! Plants are like reptiles, the more space you give them, the bigger they will grow - Now, unlike reptiles, the longer you veg them, the bigger they will grow in flower. In your case, 55x30 is 16 sq ft, or about 3 square meters. If your doing a large sativa to full growth, you can do 3 nicely sized plants

However, if your doing a scrog, you can fit alot more - Or if you plan on keeping them between 3-5' you can do alot more. It all depends on your grow style. I've been doing a perpetual SOG in a 18"x42" cabinet (36" tall) and I can fit 12 plants in it, and I can harvest every month. BUT - I can fill that space with 1 plant, that will give me 3-4x more bud, and harvest every 2 months

So really, it depends on how you want to grow. I prefer multiple strains and flavors and like the constant supply

Thank you! I really appreciate you taking the time to respond to a new grower.. I'm going to start working on my grow room/closet very soon. The building isn't climate controlled and in such a small area with two 400 watt hps lights I just know I'm going to need a portable air conditioner. Time to save up some more funds.. Yep, that's gonna be a lot of heat in that space...you really only need one 400 if your gonna do 3 plants and it will be more than enough. Got another closet? You have the info in the Jorge stuff...take the time to read all of it and then just dive in. Everybody's got their own style and you just have to find what works for you...there's more than one right way to grow this stuff, so it becomes more of a "what suits me" kinda thing. Read read and then watch the DVD's! And make it fun...it's a good thing your doing!

I have no idea how I did the math on that... That's roughly 4 square meters. I might have been high, but I kinda forgot when I wrote it....

I think 600 watts would be alot better than 2 400 watt lights. I have 600 watts in my space which is considerably smaller, but I use lower penetrating CFL's

As always I appreciate the feed back! I was going for overkill as long as it didn't hurt anything. Maybe using slightly different bulbs that would complement each other. Give the lady's what they want. I'm going to install some kind of a/c unit in the grow room. It gets over 100 degrees in the summer so even without the lighting it was going to be hot. I'll keep all of the electronics and ballasts in another room as well. I'm going to research if its unhealthy to run a window unit completely indoors. I know that they will emit odor's if used in a window so I might use it completely indoors. And filter the whole room for odor. The room itself is smaller than 10'x10'. Solitaire out!
