Caterpillars
Hi friends!
How about your Monday?
Today we want to write about another pest... Caterpillars.
Attachment 289472
Almost exclusive pest in crops of outside, usually in the summer or the beginning of autumn.
As always, we must prepare to meet the "enemy."
Caterpillars belong to the family of the Lepidoptera, in which there are more than ten thousand different species
Keep in mind that suffer certain metamorphosis:

The state of Caterpillar is its "youngest" state, and goes through a growth, which ends (after creating a cocoon or pupa) in a butterfly or moth.
Despite the diversity of species that exist, in a large percentage, it has the same features of development and reproduction.
Plague usually comes by a few eggs (laid by the female in adult State) on the underside of the leaves, especially in the lower part of the plant, the closest to the ground.
As you can guess, as soon as the egg hatches, appear the first samples of the pest.
Its Caterpillar State change, and feeds on the leaves or even enters the buds (on advanced flowering) where you can get to locate. At the end of their caterpillar state (10-25 days), moves to the floor to make small "tunnels" to go to their pupa stage, which will last about 10 to 15 days. Other varieties create a cocoon hanging from the branches.
For proper detection, we suggest a revision of the crop, like all pests.

Check lower leaves of the plant, and also look for possible bites on the leaves, or black "poop". Beware this pest in advanced flowering, often introduce into the buds, which are drying, leaving hollow on the inside and filling him with waste (their excrement). Pay attention with this because it can result in rot and be an excellent habitat for the Botrytis fungus.
Important mention to, that caterpillars do not lay their eggs inside the buds, the adult butterfly is laying eggs, and not going to any excavator to enter the bud. What tends to confuse the grower is the excrement of the caterpillar while it feeds itself.
Most often, they start to feed on young stems and leaves.
PREVENTION
The best prevention is to be aware of the crop, make revisions from time to time, looking for eggs or caterpillars bite to eat. Not that much more can be done as a preventive against this pest.
The caterpillars feed on many different plants as possible preventive can be planted around the marijuana plants, both cabbage and soybeans (which are plants that love).
I HAVE CATERPILLARS IN MY CROP, WHAT CAN I DO?
Best thing is the Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis), a bacterium that mixed with the indicated dose of water, foliar sprayed plants. With what is achieved by feeding the caterpillar eats the bacteria, which dies in a few days, as the Bt produces a stop in the gut of the caterpillar and jaw (hours later) and in its last state is paralyzed the cardiac system, causing his death. This caterpillar depending can be between 2 and 5 days, the farmer noticed that the "biting" of the lower caterpillar exponentially growing.
Important to know, that can be used in the vegetative stage of the plant and in bloom.
And remember also that in outdoor, rain can leave "clean" sheets on the application. What will it cost us spraying again.
Remind that Bt is not harmful to humans, so it could be perfectly in bloom, but still, you should leave about 7 days since your last application to harvest.
We hope this info will be useful for you.
Have a great day!
