President Obama "Sticks Toe in Water" on Legalized Marijuana

I am sure many of you saw the interview with President Obama and Michelle Obama with Barbara Walters on Friday night. I imagine for those who didnā??t see it, most of you have read about it. Although it is certainly a step in the right direction, it is a very small step. One might characterize it testing the water by putting oneā??s toe in it.
I think that is exactly what the President was doing. It is now up to us to see that he feels comfortable enough to go in a little deeper, but it isnā??t going to happen if we sit on our butts and donā??t do anything.

It is so happens that doing something is as easy clicking a few buttons on computer screen and filling in a couple forms. There are three petitions circulating on the Internet right now designed to let President Obama know that there are an awful lot of us that want to give him the courage of his convictions so he no longer has to apologize for the fact that he smoked a powerful lot of pot when he was in high school and college.
You personally can help give President Obama the courage he needs by taking five minutes or so nee to fill out and send off each one of these petitions. These are not competing petitions ā?? they are complimentary and I encourage you to take the time to sign each one.
Petition #1
This is our, Brownie Mary Democratic Club petition. It is essentially the same resolution passed by the Riverside County Democratic Central Committee last week. To sign our resolution to President Obama,
Petition #2
is being circulated by the folks from Colorado. It is specifically addressed to Vice-President Joe in response to an article in the Rolling Stones that quoted an ex ONDCP staffer that as long as Biden is VP, there will be no reform of marijuana laws.
This petition is on the whitehouse.gov site and presumably when 25,000 signatures are obtained, the Obama Administration will provide some kind of a response. This has been done in the past, but the result has always been a letdown. It will be interesting to see what the response will be in light of the Barbara Walter interview.
In order to sign the petition you will need to register with the whitehouse.gov website. Itā??s very easy and after you register you can become one of 25,000 people triggering a response. To get the whitehouse.gov website.
Petition #3
has been started by the Drug Policy Alliance. It urges President Obama not to interfere with marijuana legalization in Washington and Colorado. To sign the DPA petition,
Please take the few minutes needed to sign each petition. It may seem like your vote is nothing more than a drop in the bucket, but enough drops and the bucket overflows.
