Before I get to the reversal on Nov. 29 by Division 2 of the 4th District allowing the city of Riverside to ban medical marijuana collectives, I just want to remind you of the special presentation this Friday, Dec. 7 by Project CBD Director and author Martin Lee on the latest research on marijuana??s unbelievably potent anti-tumoral (cancer), anti-psychotic (depression, anxiety), anti-convulsive, antioxidant and neuroprotective (Alzheimers!!!) effects.
You need to learn about this and even more importantly when you learn about it, you need to tell other people about it ?? their lives depend on it. The Martin Lee Seminar is this Friday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. It is being held at Presto Quality Care (formerly THCF Medical Clinic) at 647 Main St., Riverside 92501. Admission is FREE and the general public is strongly encouraged to attend so please bring friends, family, co-workers and anyone else whose life would be improved by learning the truth about marijuana.
On November 29, the 2nd Division of the 4th District Court of Appeals reversed a lower court ruling that city of Riverside is not allowed to enact blanket bans of mmj collectives. This is no big surprise as this is the same division that ruled against the Health & Wellness Center whose case is now before the California Supreme Court. If they were to rule otherwise they would be repudiating their former decision. This is actually the third time they have ruled cities can ban collectives as the court had ruled a short while ago that cities could ban. In other words ?? no big surprise.
But their ruling is in direct opposition to the rulings of the 4th Division of the 4th District Court and the 2nd District Court that says cities can??t ban. That is what the HWC decision is going to decide. Why the city of Riverside or any municipality going bonkers over mmj collectives can??t just wait until the Supreme Court issues its decision in the next six months or so is beyond comprehension.
But beyond comprehension is the order of the day and the city of Riverside is now seeking court orders to close all of them down. No one seems to know exactly how many collectives are operating in Riverside, it runs anywhere from ten to twenty depending on who you talk to, but the point is there is a bunch so it is going to take a bit of time.
I would imagine that the attorneys for the collectives, if they have an attorney, are now looking forward to receiving anywhere from $2,000 to $10,000 in additional legal fees for appealing their loss at the 4th District Court to the California Supreme Court. They hope that the court will stay the injunction pending the appeal of the now, may I be so modest, legendary IE Patients Health & Wellness Center. EVERYONE is awaiting the decision of that one and it would only be fair for the court to stay the injunction against the collectives. It wasn??t the collectives that caused this problem! It was the city of Riverside??s! They refused to recognize that patients have a right to safe, reliable and local access to their medicine. Their failure to create a licensed and regulated distribution system is what has lead to a proliferation of medical marijuana collectives in that most desirable Riverside retail location ?? the area around the Tyler Mall. Let??s just calm now. Let??s just call a truce until the Supreme??s issue their decision. If the Sunnis and the Shites can periodically do it, then we should certainly be able to do it at least until the Supreme Court issues its decision.
I know, I know. How do you fight reefer madness? I??m not exactly sure but looking all around us from Massachusetts to Washington and everywhere in between ?? we are getting closer and closer to success. What we are experiencing in the Inland Empire is one small part of the literal surge of sanity that is sweeping through our nation. We should be proud to have played a part in it.
I look forward to seeing you Friday at the Martin Lee Seminar. There is so much to talk about.
Friday, December 7 - ??Beyond THC: Cannabidiol (CBD) and the Future of Medical Marijuana?
Martin Lee is the author of Smoke Signals: A Social History of Marijuana ?? Medical, Recreational and Scientific and is director of Project CBD, a non-profit educational service dedicated to promoting and publicizing research into the medical utility of cannabidiol (CBD) and other components of the Cannabis plant.
Mr. Lee will present a power-point presentation which explores scientific studies and clinical developments that document the extraordinary healing properties of cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive component of marijuana. CBD has potent anti-tumoral, anti-psychotic, anti-convulsive, antioxidant and neuroprotective effects.
Lee will discuss various molecular mechanisms through which CBD exerts a therapeutic impact. He will review recent findings that led to the discovery of the endogenous cannabinoid system, a hitherto unknown signaling system in the human brain and body that regulates a broad range physiological processes, including glucose metabolism, blood pressure, bone density, intestinal fortitude, pain perception and the formation of new stem cells (neurogenesis) in adult mammals.
Within the scientific community, the discovery of the ??endocannanbinoid system? is increasingly recognized as a seminal advancement in our understanding of human biology. CBD research is at the cutting edge of a revolution in medical science. As director of Project CBD, Lee will discuss efforts to reintroduce CBD-rich products into the grassroots supply in states where medical marijuana is legal.
The presentation on CBD??s will be made on Friday, December 7 beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Presto Quality Care (formerly THCF Medical Clinic) at 647 Main St., Riverside CA 92501.
