Should I take a clone from the very top of a plant?

I want to take some clones from a couple of plants I have and want to know if it is a good idea or not to take a clone from the very top of the plant. I was also thinking this would mean that I could keep the plant under grow light cycle for a little longer without it getting too tall for my tent. I have been told by one person never to cut the head but I just saw someone do it in a video on youtube so I'm wondering what anyone on here thought, any help would be much appreciated.

Topping the plant is done for several reasons, one being to restrict vertical height and encourage side growth. Most people attempting to clone a plant however do not use the top growth, the lower branches are much better suited to the changes that need to happen to the cutting in order to form roots. I get about a 98% rate from taking clones from the bottom, and I would imagine that with enough skill one could clone from the top... I just would not recommend it for a beginner.
