    Drug Dominoes Begin to Topple

    Drug Dominoes Begin to Topple

As more and more U.S. states move toward marijuana legalization, the Obama Administration needs to take a stand.

By Ian Mulgrew, The Vancouver Sun - Thursday, November 15 2012

Call it the Marijuana domino effect.

Less than two weeks after Washington and Colorado voted to legalize and regulate cannabis, lawmakers in five other states say they are considering similar bills.

In Latin American, Mexican President Felipe Calderon says Uncle Sam now has lost the ??moral authority? to ask other nations to maintain the cannabis prohibition and combat trafficking.

A fundamental change has occurred, he added, that requires the rethinking of public policy in the entire Western Hemisphere.

Calderon joined the leaders of Belize, Honduras and Costa Rica on Monday calling for the Organization of American States to study the change, and saying the U.N. General Assembly should hold a special session on the prohibition of drugs by 2015.

What didn??t seem remotely possible a fortnight ago suddenly seems inevitable.

Lawmakers in Rhode Island and Maine said they intend to introduce marijuana legalization bills for debate next year, politicians in Vermont and Massachusetts indicated they will, too, and Ohio may join them.

Since even homegrown smuggled from Colorado and Washington would be far cheaper than B.C. Bud or Mexican schwag, with the exception of a few border states, the Sinaloa cartel could soon lose up to half its total income from American cannabis consumers.

A Mexican think-tank says the two states may do more damage to the country??s bloodthirsty narcoterrorists than the war on drugs came close to achieving.

Meanwhile, in Washington, D.C., the Obama Administration is flummoxed by the sea change in the public mood towards marijuana and the expensive, failed attempt to control it with criminal laws.

Few would have predicted the pot prohibition could fall almost overnight like the Iron Curtain, nevertheless the two-state triumph for has set off a series of tremors that suggest the people??s will has shifted.

America appears to have reached a tipping point in terms of attitudes toward cannabis and, if the weight of public opinion truly has passed the fulcrum, change could be rapid.

It is just a matter of time now. If the court case in DC to get MJ off of the Schedule 1 drug listings goes well, expect an explosion of activity.

    Schedule 1 Definition::stoned:

    • (A) The drug or other substance has a high potential for abuse.
    • (B) The drug or other substance has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.
    • (C) There is a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision.

Hopefully it is the States turning the point due to humane compassion, not the big buck? No everyone wants their hand in the cookie jar. So States will turn once they even see the " projection" of the potential fincial gain. Taking it from southern cartel figures would (maybe) quill the mass dumping of body's, this is not an American traight outside countries relying on monetary support all the u.s. people give to other countries not western, sure like the material assistance along with monies. Yes then outside countries would cry foul, they would loos their cookies.... Obama (my opinion) has torn this country into shreds with generations to come riding the ripples due to his leadership. Not in my big 50 yrs in life have I see a US in this condition and then just sit idle by(Obama)...mushroom syndrome, thanks for the light boaz, I personally don't like fungi.

Would a " schedule1" be good for mm and or legalization?
I've only caught bits and pieces. Please post a few pointers I'm EXTREMELY interested in this as it classifies in what I understand either way good or bad... Very concerning. If it goes " off" the list meaning freeing it up to utilize as needed? I hope so many supporters, but I sense the air filling with a stench of fear, and if they oppose, we'll fear is very powerful, here in Oregon ALOT of conversation about the fears of " Medical/ Legalizing"how it would lead to complete loss of civilization/ crumbling of society as we know it and we would all be mindless zombies only e
ating pizza pockets...(as if this is not going on now?), not sure if it being located under Wa, and above Ca both states heavy with change its self and indeed the monetary gain will be massive enough to swiftly swing ANY State in the US to Legalize, just on projected finances alone. Obama has from what I understand every state at its knees so to say with finical hardship and no where else, but to do it under use of our meds? Is this good? I hope so, again fear is contagious and powerful. Then knowing its done under our "Meds" upsetting first place was not ok to legalize medical speaking, (according to them)but if Obama needs to pull himself out of ahole he going to use funds from this? What this say about our Gov. And monies is more than a person? Hummmm. Thanks for thoughts Emilya

The schedule 1 listing allows marijuana to be treated exactly the same way by the Feds as all of the most dangerous drugs such as Heroin, LSD and Cocaine which are also on the schedule 1 list. The argument is being made in the case in DC now that 1) no one has ever died from marijuana and 2) it appears to have medical uses, in order to get it off of this listing.

The big argument to get marijuana reclassified is that it is showing uses as a medicine to fight many common conditions. This however is very hard to prove because the US Federal Government at the moment holds the patent that locks up anyone's ability to do research using cannabinoids to treat a long list of diseases, specifically mentioning Cancer, Crones MS, Aids and many others. The USDA holds this patent until 2023, blocking any "valid" research being done in this area.

Is it about the money? Of course it is. Imagine what happens to the pharmaceutical industry if it is proven that a plant can aid and even cure many of our common ailments, and imagine the outrage when people realize that an incredible amount of death and suffering could have been avoided if we had been allowed to experiment in this area all these years. Imagine the anger when patients realize that instead of surgery and chemo, a little bit of oil several times a day could have saved them.

Emily's, very true, and accurate. It discuss myself knowing that indeed a " simple" plant/flower can cure, so much symptoms- ailments. some are common or not, still opportunity for the monetary gain(here the lack off or opposite) these " Medical Pharmacies" WILL not allow " their industry" to be destroyed by something so simple, no matter the name(here its mm) their is the LOSS of and of coarse what $$business would allow another "Product" to out do theirs with little or no Side Effects, as much of some of the simplest RX offers. Even to the level of life saving/ offering a life in its self etc. I think this would defiantly put many of them under/ out of business. Doing research/ Medical Advancement to assist Medical Relief/Symptom control....even remission (possible pending on each own symptoms all different). So they want this stopped/impede....due to $$$
It is so horrible( my opinion) knowing this; as we get closer to having relief of symptoms that plague one life every second/minute of their life that one's agenda is to " Impede", the use/ knowledge of this beautiful.....solution/med/symptom relief/all of ones symptoms. Patent pending sucks but if one deviates from the patent it's self (a specifics named item tittle name ?)then isn't this different thus causing a new allowed path to "Research and Development"? I hope this is the case, I'm not up on "patent" law, but am a little on change and " symptom relief" though. Thank you Emily's, for you great information I sure like spending my time useful, and knowledge like this is wonderful to know. Good morning peeps.

For the sake of accuracy, please allow me to correct one thing. The patent is held by the US Department of Health and Human Services. It recognizes that cannabinoids are effective in treating the long list of ailments and specifically restricts any other person or company from doing further research in this area as related to those diseases. The existence of this patent should infuriate anyone reading these words. Keep in mind too that there is a FEDERAL law that prohibits anyone not having conducted recognized research studies (of course prohibited by this patent) from even mentioning the word CURE, and a strict mandatory jail sentence can be imposed for even attempting to "cure" someone using cannabinoids. This of course is why Rick Simpson is in exile right now.

Nothing worse than 'knowing' you must break a law, to be healthier! The next push in the activism, will be the patent. Regardless, we need to keep an eye on it and our medicinal freedoms. On one hand, I would like to fight for the patent for change. However, I don't want to live where Rick Simpson is.

Many here and other forums are experimenting with the Rick Simpson Oil. It is a long way from being specific, in regards to quality control. It sure would be nice to have a scientist figure all this out. Most likely, someone has. However, knowing that he/she NEEDS the medicine and it is illegal, may choose to remain silent. or has been silenced by others...

The oil is much easier to use, than any other method, as well. It works, I know! pr
