The lab systems are little more precise than the home tests at the level of initial screening (each have an allowable variance of +/- 20%) and an error rate of 10-20 ave. The difference could be a variance in cutoff. All of the home tests I have reviewed use 50 ng while there are 20 ng in use at labs although pre-employment is generally conducted at 50 ng (in the federal program 50ng is the only allowable cutoff). Even at 20 v. 50 the difference isn't nearly as impressive as it seems.
