Where did my nutes go?
I just swapped out my rez today with a new clean one and put distilled water and fresh nutes in it. Im running botanicare nutes at half strength right now, ppm was at about 400. I checked on it just now, about 18 hours later and the water is almost clear, not the brown tea color is usually is. The roots are now covered in a brown sediment. It looks like the stuff that settles on the bottom of the rez after a few days, or the bottom of the nutrient bottle if you don't shake it up. Any ideas as to whats going on? i don't think its root rot because the roots are not slimy and the brown stuff comes off if i pick at it.

Pic's are worth a million words for you right now. more info on your system and rez please.
A cyano-bacteria outbrake can cause root rot very quickly. As for the rez water, do you have a TDS meter ?

Ya this lid is light tight. My biggest concern is why my water is so clear. is it possible the plant absorbed them so fast?

No, if they had of absorbed the nutrients they would have pissed off waste in the water. there by keeping some color to the rez. A TDS meter will tell you only how much ppm's are in the water. not what is piss and what is nutes and trace minerals. So we change our rez when we think nutes are gone.
how are the roots ?
If concerned or in doubt Always change the rez water out.
I would have changed and went to full strength with a meter to check.
p.s. Do you have a meter ?
Sometimes we mix things by the manufactures instuctions and it maybe low in reality.
Seems 400 is very low to ours. veg is 850 to 1200 and flower is 1000 to 1500. depending on the strain.
