And, they are not through stretching yet, they need the fan leaf for that.
When they no longer need the fans, they will suck the stored energy out of them,
form an abscission layer that protects from infection and sap leakage, then drop them to the root zone for next year.
It's natures way.

Then the sugar leaf will be exposed to more light at the proper time.
Around the 7th week the buds begin to swell.
That's when the sugar leaf needs light to provide that extra energy.

My advice?
Leave da leaf alone.
