My first grow.. Venting, noise, smell and heat?

I am looking to start growing and have already started rounding up the stuff I need for a closet that I have grow setup but want to ask for a little info on venting, smell ,noise and heat.

I going to be using a bucket system deep water culture diy setup in 5 gallon food grade buckets with 4 air pumps and stones. Total of 4 plants under a 400w hps with 4 cfl rated to use 23 watts for blue light. All will run thought out the grow on timers. I have a old wood closet that I am gutting for the grow and going to be using a can carbon air filter for smell with a hi-speed fan on it. This well be in my bedroom as my apartment is very small. I want it to be quite as it can be. The room well also have a window ac unit running at all times to help keep the air cooler and take down the humidify.

Well noise and heat be a major problem in this setup? I like to sleep and dont want anyone to hear a noisey motor running at all hours. so any ideas on this would be great.

I don't think I can vent outside as the closet well be in a corner and I can't make holes in the walls as I rent. Well this hurt the plant grow or smell control?

I also well have friends over once in a blue moon so smell is a big deal. Will the can carbon filter cover all the smell from start to finish? Though about adding a ozone maker but have heard they are very bad if your not venting the air out of the room plus i don't want to breath in O3 rich air all night.

Let me know what you think

    Thanks

My first grow.. Venting, noise, smell and heat?

    Hey,

I feel your pain I also grow in my bedroom as I am renting and my space is limited.
Just to let you know, I decided not to go down the HID route with my grows as I think they are more trouble than they are worth in a stealth grow in my bedroom.
I decided to go down the LED and CFL route. Best decision I ever made... I have no heat issues, no humidity issues, no carbon filter issues and no power issues. You get the point I'm sure.

Personally, if I were you I would invest in a grow tent and not rip up your closet. My tent is 90cm x 90cm x 140cm and I could never imagine growing without it.
My tent is the best investment, besides the LED light, I made in my grow op. I can control everything in the plants environment... I mean everything... It even acts as a sound absorber.

The issue you might have regarding smell is humidity. Carbon filters are great but their nite is humidity. Humidity clogs up the filter and stops it working.
Also, you mentioned a high speed extractor fan. I use a centrifugal, speed controlled extractor fan and I always keep it running on a low speed, carbon filters are more effective then.
High speed extractors can pull air through them too quickly making them less efficient at removing odours. Also, the lower the speed the less noise the fan makes.
You can buy silencers for extractors on eBay. They work very well.

I vent into my bedroom but leave a nearby window open a little. This is enough to keep the air fresh as it is dragged into the tent. The Can9000 carbon filter is fantastic. Get it !
You won't need any Ozone machines when you get this filter. I'm on my second grow and it has been on constantly, 24/7, since this time last year and is 100% perfect still.
With my 190w LED light and my 260w of 2700k CFL my tent remains at a constant 28 degrees Celsius. 25 is optimal but I will be adding some DIY CO2 soon so it's ok.

My LED light is a little noisy at night but I always set it up to go off when I am going to bed. I sometime sleep with a wax earplug in one ear anyway as the neighbours are a little loud.

You should check out my first grow journal, the link is in my signature below. You will see all the trouble I went through with odour control etc. I documented each week from seed to harvest. There will be a lot of useful info in there for you. It was designed for you

    Take care
