    Gull Wing or Enclosed Fixture?

Anyone out there running a 600 W HPS with an enclosed fixture? I'm using a gull wing and I can't get it within 3-4 feet of my plants or it burns them. How Close to your plants in flower can you get that fixture and what did it cost.

    Growing in siol
    4x8 mylar tent
600 W HPS for both stages (Till I can afford a MH light)
Into 10 days of 12-12 light cycle

What is the temp in the tent? I bet it is too high... You should be able to get your light 2 feet from the plants with proper cooling. Increase air circulation or run A/C and supplement co2, otherwise get an air or water cooled light. My buddy runs a water cooled thousand watt fixture in a tent your size and can get his plants about a foot from the fixture, only drawback is he has to run a pump and a 50 gallon reservoir outside the tent in order to keep the light cool.

Temp inside runs between 75 and 80 F when the light is on. Being my first indoor grow, I have found many problems one of them was choosing marble chips for drainage in the bottom of my pots. once the roots reached the marble chips they didn't like the PH of the chips (just under 8) so I'm still groping in the dark as to why my first indoor grow looks so poor.

Yeah, bummer. Temp is fine obviously, you may just have nutrient deficiencies as a result of pH lockout. Drainage has never been a problem for me running straight soil with perlite or straight coco fiber. I'd double check the nutes you are running to be sure you are using them in the proper proportions, maybe drop the pH down a bit more to compensate for the high pH of the chips, flush out your pots for a single watering, and then try again...

If they look really bad then cut your losses and start over? No sense in wasting power on a bad grow, imo...

into flowering stage on this grow. They ended up a little short but yield looks great ....wish that damn microscope would show up ! May have to do the first harvest without it. I went 4 weeks in veg and I'm at 4 weeks flower right now. compared to past years outdoor grows these look like 3-4 times the bud/ inch of growth. The plants are around 20 inches tall and I'm thinking around 4-5 oz /plant. I guess we'll see how the yeild is in a couple of more weeks.

Looks like you're doing fine, obviously yield can be better yeah but they look really healthy. You'll get a routine down in a few rounds. I would certainly veg a little longer and get an air-cooled light fixture so you can get em higher, or just run more plants in smaller pots if you can... Most strains I have run double in size after flipping to 12/12 so be prepared for that... Good luck, and nice work with those.

Yeah I had to flower this batch early to try and save my cash. Dispensaries in Maine are getting $15/ gram for medibud. I'll have to do at least one more grow til I save up enough for the fixture.
