    Need some advice!!

    Hi all,

First off, I am a new member, happy to be here! Have a little story for you guys, hoping you can give me some advice. I am a first time grower and was given some free seeds. I germinated about six in wet paper towels, after about 48 hours none of them had cracked except for one that had barely cracked and produced a base root. Due to certain circumstances I was forced to plant them anyways. I put the still closed (one barely cracked) seeds in soil and 1/2 inch deep and have watered the soil as needed to keep it moist. The pot is in a large box lined with tin foil, with two overhead CFL's, the interior of the box is very bright!, and the lights have been on 24/7. Its been about a week and nothing has cracked the surface of the soil. So my question is, am I s.o.l. because i planted them before they cracked, or could they have potentially finished germinating in the soil and just haven't broke the surface yet? Let me know what you guys think!

    Much love,

And don't let them dry out until you see growth above ground. Keep them damp, not wet.

Thanks for the advice guys. I am going to be patient and keep the soil damp and keep my fingers crossed. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks!

Not sure what's wrong, but that's too long a time for a healthy sprout to pop.

You don't need to water them for a while. Just make sure the medium is damp when they go in. Water very sparingly until you've got a few sets of leaves.

Just search germination on the main page.

I don't think your S.O.L. but I do believe that keeping them in the same germination chamber would have been a better idea. However, like you said, if you had certain circumstances to prevent you from doing so, then so be it.

If they haven't popped by now, I think it would be safe to say that they were dead or lazy seeds. (haha)

Let us know how it went!

it could take a while for them break the surface. but when it does break the surface the stems are going to be really thick. thats the main reason why i usually dont germinate my seeds. the stem is always so flimsy when ever i plant a germinated seed.

I decided to abort mission. I dug up the seeds and they were in the exact same state as when i put them in the soil, so i guess i made the right call. Im going round two and currently have 4 seeds that are germinating like champs, hopefully ill have better luck this time around!

the seeds are germinating nicely. but when i looked at them today there was red spots on the paper towel next to the seeds. Anyone have any idea what this is?

The red spots are probably bacteria growth from playing with your old fella then touching the wet paper towels.
