You need to give more info... indoors, outdoors, lights, etc etc....

If its outdoor you will need to get it out of that pot soon, it is growing fast and looks good.

I wouldnt touch those large fan leaves as they provide a lot of the nutrients through photosynthesis. They havent even developed yet anyway. Whoever told you to chop then needs their heads examined.

The only time you 'trim' the very large leaves it to provide more light penetration during a tight indoor grow. Its a rare treatment.

I wouldn't even bother topping it, why cause unnecessary stress. Just dig a 3 foot deep and 2 foot wide hole outside in the sun, south facing. Fill it with some good potting soil, moss peat, top soil and compost. (60% good quality potting soil).

Wet the soil and then repot into it and then let nature take its course.
