Good Strain for Autism/ ASD
Hello everyone! First time poster, long time lurker. I have an unusual situation and was wondering if any of you could give me some advice.
I have Autism, and even though most of the difficulties that come with this condition are fairly manageable for me, I have a hard time in stressful, high pace, high volume situations, such as major social events (especially with lots of people and noise, like bars and the like) and most work situations. I get easily overstimulated and overloaded; the best analogy I can give for these moments is like a computer with too many open programs at once. I cannot manage all the stimulus and it causes me to become panicked. In the past I have medicated with cannabis, but my supply has been erratic and a bit of a gamble; the effects are almost always different.
All this said, I am looking for a strain or strains that will help calm my nerves and enable me to focus and process high rates of stimulus properly, but not sedate me to the point that I cannot function. If you can name particular strains from particular seed banks that deliver to the USA, that would be a plus, but it isn't a "must" by any means. I am going to college in the fall and don't want my issues with stimulus overload to impede my academic life.
Thanks for your time. Namaste.Kaleidoscope Mind Reviewed by Kaleidoscope Mind on . Good Strain for Autism/ ASD Hello everyone! First time poster, long time lurker. Good Strain for Autism/ ASD
:jointsmile:Hi there Kal mind, Welcome and you have started your quest with good company here.
Autism is all inclusive for many symptoms that are well managed by Cannabis. Each brain and the brain receptors are unique. And not to make light of a very serious situation for you, but you really have hit (as Granny says) 'The Jackpot' here! If you haven't, please read Granny Storm Crow's list here OR Google it, and you may want to do that anyway, sense links seem to be getting scrubbed here:smokin:.
There is not enough research out there to match fine lines up like 'genetic' studies for this.
Unfortunately, this will be a process of elimination for you. Or moreso, a quest for the correct Hybrid Strain (which could bge fun, if you have lots of time).
The Hybrid Strains are what I would focus on, ultimately for yourself.
Second: Grow your own!
Try to get as much of a pure Indica Strain, as possible. That will help you focus and calm you. Maybe stop your brain from racing.
Then a Sativa, as pure as possible. Note the different effects it haI would first go for Medibles.s on you. It has been my experience that a sativa will and can make your mind 'fly' in many directions. For some, though, it doesn't do that. They are so TOTALLY FOCUSED AND THINK MORE INTENSELY. You will have to discover what is correct for you.
Try it and Share it here. Hopefully, others will do the same thing. And direct you toward the Strain They Have Choosen for the Same Symptoms.
Ultimately, it is what you choose.
You can regulate the dose better, as well as with tinctures and concentrates:rasta:. Many methods here and on the internet. I find that when I need all day meds and don't want to be "stupid' I simply do medibles. I seldom experience the "High" with edibles in the correct strength, that you may find distracting by toking. It is dose related.
You have to be able to "Stop" medicating to find out which is correct for you. Take a dose and wait and evaluate the effects. Go from there.
It is my observation that it is so totally different with each person. Between the 'meld' of the blend you ultimately select, you may find your answer in there.
I was reading on Autism earlier today. See if this will help a bit.

Good Strain for Autism/ ASD
although this is an older post...thought i'd throw my 2 cents in since i have autism as well
I find sativa's to be the best med...or sativa dominant as it is rare to find a pure sativa these days.
Many people with higher functioning autism/aspergers get anxiety/depression 2-3 times more then the average person
and melt downs/shutdowns only add to this...sativa's for me help me not focus on the things going on around but remain inside my mind and train of thought rather than becoming overly focused on too much noise, smell, or blinking lights....w.e. the case may be. Sativa's=mind high, Indica's= body high though mileage may vary. Indica's put me in a bad place and make me lazy, and then i focus on all the things that would caust a meltdown or shutdown. However as the other poster said each mind/body is different so really you have to try for yourself.
