Plants use of reflected lighting
I don't have my book right now but I remember reading in Jorge Cervantes book that if you have light directed at the underneath of the plant you will actually hurt it. The bottom of the leaves can't use the light so they just get burned. Sorry I don't have my reference but I DO remember reading that cause I was wondering the same thing.
