JK I'm not that retarded... at least not all the time. But anyways to answer your questions.. I haven't ever done pollinating but I plan to attempt it sometime soon. I have a male quaranteened right now waiting for my sativa female to mature further. So nothing I am about to say should be taken as a definite fact, it is merely what I think is the proper way to go about pollinating a small section of a female. Basically I think you should wait until the female has developed good bud structure, but not wait so long that the buds are basically finished growing and you're just waiting for them to mature to their proper harvesting stage. I believe you need somewhat mature flowers that still have enough growing time left in them to grow out large, matured seeds. If the seeds don't have a chance to fully mature they will likely have much lower germination rates, as well as the possibility to produce weaker plants which may affect growth throughout the entire life of the plant.

Aside from that stuff, based on what I have read I would just like to strongly encourage you to be very careful with the entire process and careful with any handling of male plants. Make sure that anytime you're around the males you aren't getting your hands or clothes or anything covered in pollen, and then going to interact with your females. Also make sure you take the proper steps to controlling the pollination by using plastic bags and moisture to control where the pollen has access to your female. Good luck with all that and lemme know how it goes. Also being that it appears as though your plants are outdoors, make sure wind or bugs can't carry pollen to your fems.
