So much to learn - 12/1 Veg

I've been absorbing all the information here until I feel like my head will explode. I know that experience is the best teacher and I should just DO IT and learn from it. Setting up my first grow closet, 2 wide x 2 deep x 6 feet tall. CFL grow all set and almost ready to grow, but I just read something tonight that I would love some input from the experienced growers here. Has anyone here tried a 12/1 Vegetative light schedule? Or should I just stick with 24 hours a day or 18/6 for my Veg? Thanks in advance for any help and thanks to all who have contributed to threads, it has been invaluable to this Newbie just setting up.

    To be more specific:

12-1 lighting is as follows: 12 hours lights on, 5.5 lights off, 1-hour lights on, 5.5 lights off, and repeat schedule. The 1 hour on in between off period fools the plants that stay in growth state!

Your gonna be better off just using the 18/6,schedule.. All that switcharoo stuff is gonna lead you towards failure! KISS..... No disrespect! Keep it simple stupid = KISS..

If you're really tight on money and are just trying to pinch pennies on power, give it a go.
Running cfls I don't think the savings will really be that much, and I'm sure growth will be slower.

I've never used a schedule like that indoors, have used light interruption to prevent flowering outdoors, so the schedule works. I don't think it's all that great an idea for vegging though.

I think it's good to decide ahead of time and stick to it.

I started growing with 24 hours a day for some weeks then thought I'd try the 18/6 so switched to that, and that was enough of a shock to trigger some plants into flowering. Kind of a slow flowering though, worked for me because that was enough of a sign to pick out and remove males.

I'm doing all fluorescent grow inside of a 2x4x4 box and it worked well but I didn't have enough air movement, too much humidity and had a mold problem.

    Another consideration.

Guys don't some of us use a lighting schedule like that during the first weeks of flowering to light stress the moms into some stamens? I too think that 18/6 is just fine for veg, if you use cfls get em close. Also like 'tacman7', I'd say be sure you address the excess humidity, seen a grow go overnight with mold. You should have seen the tears.

Yes, if the plant is _already_ in flower, then that schedule will confuse the hell out of them. :O
So long as they haven't seen any 12+ hour nights, no issues. It's commonly used to prevent the onset of flowering under natural lighting.
