Again, fill out the troubleshooting form so we can provide meaningful help. Otherwise we're just guessing. You want people to take the time to help so you should take the time to give them the information they need. I don't mean to be rude, just trying to get my point across. Back the light up to 2 feet and see if that helps unless it is air cooled in which case that is not the problem (see why you need to fill out the form?).

Using soil from the garden is not a good idea - at all. It has all kinds of bugs that can reach infestation levels in an indoor garden.
