Kayla, Why?
Unless you join the military, I can't understand? If you want to travel, let Uncle Sam pay for your education first and then let Uncle Sam send you all over the world!?!? pr

I can understand. Travel outside of the US is a blast, especially when you are young. I took a year off between high school and college and traveled europe, north africa, the middle east, and india. It was the BEST year of my life and set my course for the next 20. If you don't do it while you are young you will never be able to do it the same way again. At 48 I could never take off 9 months to travel and even if I could I wouldn't be willing to travel the way I did back then - on a threadbare shoe string! I spent a month in Turkey in the early 80s on $240! I saw the whole country front to back (except a few places the military wouldn't let me go to b/c they were busy burning kurd villages... but that's a different post).
What kind of advice are you looking for? I spent 15 years living over seas. I can probably help if you can be a bit more specific.

Ok so I'm going to blame my computer on the fact that I thought nobody had answered the OP. Lemme go back and read the rest of the thread..

i lived in germany for 3yrs. what a great country. public transportation is the best in the world. the people are very friendly..sometimes too friendly makes you wonder. not alot of crime like you have here. and for the most part germany is in the center of everything one would want to see. You can go skiing in the alps, hop on a plan for 5 hrs and see france turn around and go to venice italy. Europe is a wonderful experience, if you have the money and time to travel there id say go for it. The only reason i was there though was because my father was in the army so the military is a great way to travel the world.
and of course visit amsterdam. its cool and all but its not what everyone says. its kinda dirty and the red light district makes you think of nothing but aids. but its a cool place. i enjoyed smoking a bowl in the coffee shop and munching on a dutch cookie but its only amsterdam theres so much more over there than being able to smoke weed legally.
one day ill go back, my wife wants to go to venice and france so im trying to save so we can go. A cheap way of seeing europe is backpacking. If you dont mind walking and sleeping in hostels. I cant remember what its called but theres a ticket you can buy that gets you onto buses and trains all on the same ticket. im sure a good backpacker site could tell you what you need to backpack europe, lots of people do it every year

actually the need to learn german isnt really needed. the schools over there a far from what we have here. They learn german as well as english and most of them learn french. i never had a problem communicating with the locals there.
