Wire the hood and the ballast back together with 12/2 wire. Then you won't have the ballast heat. Set it outside the room. That magnetic ballast has different temps. at different times when it's on.

Being aware that I can screw up ANYTHING, is this something that (like) requires soldering or other such 'difficulties'? I'm not (per say) 'scared' of a solder gun, and I have one. Actually, I'm pretty good at soldering, having been a bench tech and computer shop manager/owner for 30 years. I'm just scared of the unknown and what I could be getting myself into.
