Question about potential trouble with kids.

I have been a grower for about a year and recently had to break down due to an appraiser coming through. I have been down for about 3 weeks now and will be taking a break for another 3 weeks. With the recent news of Obama cracking down in Cali, I have been flip flopping on whether to continue. I currently reside up north in the mountains of Cal, and for a long time our profession has been accepted as the norm, but I fear the recent changes are gonna spark our local enforcement agency to start knocking on doors. That and a recent ordinance that was voted in, stating a person could only use 10% of their living space to grow, has me a bit confused as to what to do. My biggest hurdle is what would happen to my kids if for some reason the locals decided to kick down my door? any advice would be great.

Question about potential trouble with kids.

I'm not from California, but I have a few thaughts. If you are all legal and following the laws, than they have no reason to hassle you. I'm pretty sure you don't include your children in your personal gardening activities so its none of anybody's bussiness what your growing. Does anybody around you know about your little hobby? If not than it should stay that way. They make carbon filters and all kinds of diff methods for subdueing odours. And I'm not sure what your lighting situation is, but two six hundred watt lights putt off the same amount of light as a thousand watt light, but uses 10% less energy. In case the electricity company gets curious, which is unlikely... Thats all I got for ya, hope its a little helpful. Good luck either way!

If you're in the emerald triangle I wouldn't worry about it. The sheriffs up there are well aware of beneficial revenue the industry brings to the area so they are pretty easy going. It doesn't matter which state you live in the DEA is always a threat even though constitutionally it can not do what its doing. Just keep it low profile and you should be fine.

Question about potential trouble with kids.

Am not up North, however, can share a bit of what has happened around here! From people I have personal experience with. First, I would like to point out, it is very unlikely they will go door to door like the dog catcher does here. The people I know that had problems were disturbing the peace or something else and cops came to the door, then discovered pot. On one occasion, the police took the pot and the man of the house. After getting confirmation of his mmj req. they released him and his plants!

About your children. This is the slippery slope and certainly what you are most concerned about, I would be! If you are the only adult in the home; should you be taken to the P.D., they will not leave them home alone. You do not have to let police in your home without proper paperwork. Provided you take all advice already given.

If you are not the only adult in the home, does the other partake? It is mostly possible that your children will be left into that persons care. I do not know the age of your children, but I have a friend and she says, "Be careful what you say to the kids, they always talk!" And that would be of more concern, to me! I think I read 'Stinky Attic' said that in a thread, a long time ago, also.

I would also be concerned, if you are growing more than allowed by a req. If you are, you need to buddy up with some patients and have their req's copied and in your home. In the area I was living in last year a man was taken in for too many plants. Did not have patient reqs. until after released. He then provided the proper amt. of reqs for plants growing and charges were dropped. During this time, he lost all his equipment and plants.

Good luck to you and always make your children your first priority. What you decide, is a personal decision! Since we are not allowed to grow within a certain distance of schools, etc. It would not be prudent to have your children around it. However, I know people that have grown and told their children all during childhood and did just fine. And that was before we had legal mmj! Just do not draw attention and make sure your children do the same. Meaning, they don't have an authority figure at your home, because they have been in a lot of trouble. Good Luck, a tough decision pal! pr

I don't live in California but I remember reading one time about someone's idea to lease grow space to patients in like a big warehouse or something. that might be a good idea for people who want to grow their own but not in their own home. the only downside is that you would have to travel with it and I'm not sure if they ever actually started any or not. or you might consider having a caregiver to grow for you until the kids are older. personally I don't see anything at all wrong with growing in your own home and if your legal you shouldn't have any problems but you can't be too safe sometimes.

Question about potential trouble with kids.

Hope y'all don't mind me throwing in my :twocents:....

I think it is complete bullshit that parents should have any fear of any sort for choosing to grow medical grade cannabis.... This is another fear based propaganda tool used by our government to suppress people from self healing.... If my gov expects me to believe that my child, or anyone elses child, is in imminent danger because I'm growing plants....they got another thing coming.... How, sorry for my lack of a better word, retarded do they think we really are??? And the funny part is that soooooo many people are brainwashed about cannabis that they'd agree with our gov.... Really??? A freakin plant is dangerous??? You've got to be kidding me....

This is exactly why people who are in respectable positions in their communities who use med cannabis should come out of the closet and admit they do.... We shouldn't have any shame or fear for growing something as harmless to humans as cannabis is....

Prohibition is much more dangerous to children than any plant I've ever grown....

CGI, you hit the nail on the head!!! If the 'professionals' would get out of the closet, be open and honest. Things would change across the nation!!! Can't tell you how many I know that partake and are publicly against a plant. It sucks!

Oh, and the idiots that are yelling 'fire' in a crowded room need to try a joint before passing judgement!
