From the Lighting Guy, Stop baking your plants....
How you can stop the heat and stop baking your plants with your existing HID Metal Halide and HPS lighting fixtures.
A good friend of mine is an inventor-we've been friends for over 25 years now. Because I am in the lighting industry and some of his innovations have to do with light bulbs, we often talk 'shop' about light bulbs. Kind of a nerdy thing to do, but he has come up with an innovation for existing grow light systems that is pretty impressive (but, you be the judge).
It is a rather a simple unit, that when installed in your existing metal halide or high pressure sodium grow light system, it will greatly reduce the radiant heat. This unit reduces the radiated heat of your traditional HID grow lights up to 50% with only up to 10% light loss, by channeling the heat away from the plants. When tested, we measured the light fixture source temperature at 792 F degrees without the Heat Stopper and 116F degrees (source temperature) with the Heat Stopper. You can now move your lights closer to your plants and increase the yield without worrying about damaging your plants with radiated heat. It uses the same technology that was used on the international space station to reflect the heat away yet still allow visible light to pass thought the windows.
If you are interested, the unit is called, the "The Heat Stopperā?¢ heat shield". It was recently introduced at the Long Beach growing show in last month for the first time ever. There is a short installation video (on You Tube) and a website that shows how it works. If you have any questions please let me know.
Thanks for taking the time to check this out. I know it is somewhat commercial, but we wanted to share the excitement from the show with you.MarkTLS Reviewed by MarkTLS on .
