LED Grow update no.5, October 10th, 2011

It seems that one of the 10 plants has not developed properly. I must remind you that a lot of the seeds I was given by my friend were AK47 and a mix of I don’t know what. We will have to see if they are all AK47. Nine of the ten seedlings are doing great under the Pro-Grow 260 and only 80 watts of CFL lights. I switched the Pro-Grow to duel spectrum and I believe it draws 180 watts. Altogether I am growing 9 plants at around 250 watts. Most of it LED! It might be a stretch in my mind but I have heard good things about this Pro-Grow 260.

I saw roots protruding from the compressed paper pots today. I know roots don’t like light so I felt it was time to re-pot. I decided to take out the 2.5 gallon buckets and drill the ends for drainage. I put stones at the end of the buckets and also put stones under the buckets to keep them up off the water trays. This will give freer drainage for the plants. If the water trays begin to fill after watering I will use a 100ml syringe with an 80cm nozzle to suck up the excess. I realise the plants are very young to be going into the 2.5 gallon buckets but I think the soil is nice and airy and will remain that way. I stuck 2 soil ph testers in 2 different buckets to keep an eye on it. I used some peat so I think I should check the ph. I’m sure I read somewhere that if you plant a seedling in slightly acidic soil it can promote males.
