White Powdery Mold Suspect

So my father in law dropped off two batches from the harvest and I have no idea what to do... The first batch looked fine but had a tinge of a funky smell to it... so trimmed it up even nicer and jarred it. The 2nd, however has the same smell, almost like a mildew but not quite, like maybe just a little too fresh but could be something else... The problem is, the batch has a super fatty branch that is covered in the white powdery stuff that i am guessing is mold. It's mostly found on leaves I would otherwise be trimming off anyways but some nug is infected. Alot of the loose nugs don't have any signs but some do.

The bud looks AMAZING aside from the white portions and once you crack the nug open, it seems to be pretty much perf. I have no idea whether this is a benign mold and can be removed and ignored or is this whole batch completely lost? Also, since the smell is similar to the stuff that doesn't have any of the powdery white portions, should i assume it's also infected even though it was packaged separately?

Father in law is hurting pretty bad and losing this could be a pretty bad blow to his pocketbook. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

it's powdery mildew, remove the buds in bag that are covered with it. powery mildew will only spread if there is moisture in the bag. Dont close the bag let it breed some fresh air. Move the buds around in the bag. Powdery mildew is a plant killer when it happens in flowering stage. You are lucky it's only on a couple of buds. Dont smoke the contaminated buds, it's bad for your lungs. And when it's dried correctly you can always put it in a freezer bag and stick it in the freezer it will remove some of the rotten smell from the good buds.

Yes. sorry.
That looks like mature PM. in flower.
And when it blooms like that, it's already systemic.

You might be able to save some of it if you jar it in small amounts and cure at a low RH.
<60% that will keep it from blooming in the jar.
As for how deep it has grown into the buds, the proof is in the puffing.
PM has a funky taste.
Some folks smoke it anyway.
It does not produce mycotoxins like Stachybotrus and it's ilk, but it can set off allergies

And while my research says it's not harmful to an un-compromised immune systems,
I still do not like that taste so why risk it?.

Here's where the news gets worse.
I once suggested that it be made into bubble hash.
Sounded like a good idea, so when I got PM, on one of my "keepers" I tried it myself.

There's still a trace of that smell in the hash, Dang!

It's faint, but it's there!

So dunno what to tell ya.

Thanks for the extra info, Weezard! Glad it's nothing that will be too damaging to the body, hopefully some comes out tolerable, lol.
