Small Bear Makes Mess in Alaska Grocery Store!

Wed, 19 Oct 2011 22:57:29 -0400
KETCHIKAN, Alaska (AP) â?? Some shoppers in Ketchikan got treated to Alaska's version of a bear market last weekend.
The Ketchikan Daily News reports (Ketchikan Daily News - Access denied) a small black bear cub walked in the front door of Tatsuda's IGA. The scared animal found its way to a produce cooler, where it made a mess.
Meat department manager Joe Stollar responded to the PA announcement with a net because he misheard the announcement to say there was a bird in the store.
Authorities suspect it was an orphaned bear since its mother wasn't nearby. Stollar says the tiny bear was just scared and trying to hide.
A customer captured the bear, and it was sent out the store's back door into the woods.
Several thousand dollars of ruined produce was donated to a livestock owner.

GATLINBURG, Tenn. (AP) â?? A bear has feasted on pecan logs, caramel apples and other treats at a candy store in the Smoky Mountains resort town Gatlinburg, Tenn.
Employees reporting for work found the bear Wednesday morning at the Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen, where the animal apparently had knocked a hole in a glass front door to enter, according to The Mountain Press (The Mountain Press - Bear glary in ).
Police propped open several back doors and made loud noises, and the bear ran into the woods.
The animal had spread candy on the floor, and wrappers and packaging were strewn throughout a back storeroom. Pecan logs had been chewed and chunks were missing out of caramel apples.
Bob Miller of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park said bears are active this time of year, searching for food before hibernation.

Wed, 12 Oct 2011 11:48:25 -0400

ROSWELL, N.M. (AP) â?? A New Mexico woman faces charges after police say she put an ad on Craigslist looking to buy drugs.
Roswell police arrested Anamicka Dave, 29, this week after officers posing as sellers arranged to meet her through text messages.
Dave's ad on Craigslist's "casual encounters" section said she was new to town and "looking for Mary Jane," KOB-TV reported (Roswell police arrest woman looking to buy weed on Craigslist | KOB.com).
Roswell Police Sgt. Ty Sharpe said the ad was so blatant, he had to make sure it wasn't posted by another undercover officer.
"I was really surprised that someone would actually put on there they were looking for weed â?? an actually illegal product â?? to the fact that I called my boss to make sure it wasn't one of our guys trying to do a reverse sting," Sharpe told the station.
Police met the Albuquerque woman in a parking lot and then arrested her.
It was unclear if Dave had an attorney, and a message left at a phone listing for her wasn't immediately returned Wednesday.
