The point about The Patriot Act isn't about what it says, it's about what it doesn't say. The bill was passed into law with no public hearings and no congressional committee markup, as is the case with every other law. So the government is exploiting any ambiguity that lies within the law.

Section 215 of The Patriot Act, which can be read by searching for H.R. 3162 here, has been used to search library records. Assistant Attorney General Viet Dinh said FBI "agents have contacted about 50 libraries nationwide in the course of terrorism investigations" in the Report to the House Judiciary Committee on the USA PATRIOT Act and Related Measures (May 13, 2003) which confirmed further that "the Justice Department has used many of these anti-terrorism powers to pursue defendants for crimes unrelated to terrorism, including drug violations, credit card fraud, and bank theft." Additionally, a University of Illinois survey of librarians in 2002 stated that "hundreds of libraries had reported contacts from federal agents."

So maybe you should read The Patriot Act

if you havent even read it how do you know what it does or dosent say?

were any of the people on the record?or were these just "people"that wrote in?
