Growths and Preflowers

Hi everyone been loving the forum and pictures people have been putting up. I have picked up on loads of ideas already so thank you for that!

I'm kinda new to this, I did grow a plant before but left it too long so I want to get it right this year (if i'm lucky).

Really I just want clarification as a lot of you are masters in your art and probably seen these things before.

With the first picture i have a growth coming out of the V, I'm still scratching my head but if i'd had guess it would be a side branch coming out as the picture shows a similar characteristic of other growing branches. I've seen a couple of examples on forums but none really go into detail and most throw it out thinking it to be a male.

The other picture shows a scene from aliens, i would like to think of them as females but no doubt it's too early to tell?

It's my first post and i hope it will be helpful to others who are scratching their heeeds.

Any help or comments will be most welcome!

No sex yet thanks! They've all turned into shoots with leafs.

It turns out that it's female! I can see why people get excited now! :-)
