weird hydro problem

just started my first grow using my drip system and i suspect maybe this plant was getting too much water on the stem because after it started to look bad i plucked it out to look at the roots and there was a slimy black nastiness on the stem and the roots looked bad any idea for sure what it is?

what you have is a case of lazy grower syndrome.. lol major root rot.. all you had to do is check it everyday.. now you know so your next grow you'll stay on top of it.... gl with the next grow..
