Checking card every time
Seems like some places require the card every time you visit, others check it once and only need your ID from that point onward (until the expiration date I assume).
I can't for the life of me find my card right now (it's somewhere at home, but we're moving so it's a shambles), but I'm 'checked in and registered' at a few places that might let me buy without it since I'm already a customer...
My renewal is in a few months so I'll have a card again at some point here, but I wish they'd have just made it a credit-card sized thing that didn't stick so far out of my wallet so I could leave it in there 24/7.5280and420 Reviewed by 5280and420 on . they made the red cards oversized on purpose...when you pull your wallet out for the man then it's right in the face of the officer so he can then ask u if you have been smoking....it's all part of Romer's big plan...

don't keep it in your wallet. put it in a big ziplock and store it in a backpack or something in your car. the red cards are a tribute to the hate the state of Colorado has for the patients. king soopers and any library has more secure and convenient cards than the DOH cares to bother with. Considering the new rules, they need to step it up w/better cards. They are going to drop the fee to 35 then claim they can't afford to offer the level of service they should be providing now.

To be compliant with state law, centers are required to verify that you have your card on you with every purchase. It's for your protection, as well. Whether you're comfortable going to a center that doesn't require that is completely up to you.
If it's a few months before your due to renew, I'd suggest filling out a lost/stolen card form and they'll get a fresh one to you within a couple weeks.

and fyi - DO NOT send your renewal in more than 60 days in advance or they will cash your check and deny you. even if it took them a year to process your last one and you thought you were being diligent. .

Thanks for the advice re: the replacement card and the renewal. I'll just hold out until my renewal and send that in next month when I'm about 50 days from expiration. I've got enough supply to last me.
