319's Dirt Box
I was going through the motions today in the garden, cleaning, watering, pruning things of that nature. I noticed that my Microblast is running out and put that on my things to buy next. It got me thinking about how many trips to the store I've made this week.
Like most growers we have a love/hate relationship with the store. I love being in there reading labels seeing all the new products hit the shelf. But then, there are the other reasons not to visit that place often. Or fall into the need to pay 400 bucks to visit after hours.
Anyway to make a long story short, I'm an Earth Juice fan and have been for some time now. When I noticed the micro was low I thought to myself, I bet I can make these nutes myself. Synthetic or organic it doesnâ??t matter, they give use 98% solution (filler) and 2% product. Well, why don't I just buy the active ingredient or find an organic source to accomplish what I doing now. So I came up with the following.
So I came up with the following plan:
Vegetative:
Clones
Worm castings kelp
1 1 cup/g
2 1 cup/g 1tsp/g
3 1 cup/g 1tsp/g
Since I'm setting everything up to be conducive to sog, my clones shouldn't receive more then 3 weeks in veg. The mix is a little on the light side. I gather that this would allow the clones to use up as many nutrients in the soil and be ready for some heavier feedings right into flower.
Right now I have 2 clones that have gone two weeks in soil with just plain non-ph'd water. They look fine and I believe that nutes previous to now would have no serious increase in growth. I guess it took awhile to truly understand that less is more.
G=Gallon
Tsp= teaspoon
Mothers
1 1 cup/g 1tsp/g 2.5ml/g
Figure the mothers just needed a mild solution to control grow as I'm limited in every direction. If a mother becomes unruly in size then I'll just clone her and start again.

On to the base nutrients first, this is pretty much the same NPK breakdown of earth juice. So I shouldn't see much difference. But where Iâ??m going to see a difference is the time that I'll spend going to the grow shop and most importantly I should be able to save a lot of money. I can buy these products in bulk locally and I currently pay around 32 dollars a gallon for earth juice whereas I'll be able to make 20-40 gallons of product for 10-15 dollars by switching to these products.
I know that some of the product choices are a little overboard, but I want to enrich the environment (soil) to the fullest.
A little breakdown of the base products.
Worm Castings (Water Soluble) - Primary nutrients and secondary. (N&K) Running me about 10 dollars for 4 pounds local.
Kelp â?? A very good nitrogen fertilizer and will provide extra potash. $15 for one pound.
Molasses- I switched from Hi-Brix to a local brand about mid grow. Brix was running me 30 dollars for one gallon I now pay 10 for the same amount. I was reading about Brix in general awhile ago and didn't really see anything the validated the 20 dollar increase.
Peace of Mind Bat Guano â?? I couldn't track down a high P bat guano to save my life. So I decided to go with a brand name. It's bat guano designed for blooming and I like that.
Hygrozyme â?? I like this product. There's been some talk about how effective it really is or isn't. But the main thing that I've noticed is that my plants seem to absorb nutrients better.
Additives:
Fulvic and Humic blend â?? It's very cheap around here. About 8 for a pound, I'm going to give it a try. Most major brands are starting to put bottled products out, so why not?
Epson Salt â?? This product has always been on the back burner. I've never planned on using it, but I'm going to include it in from now one due to my plants not receiving enough at the moment.
Mushroom Compost â?? This is another one of those trying it out items.
bud blood â?? I've always included a little synthetic nutrients in all of my grows. I feel that synthetic and organics work best when organics is the primary and synthetic second. Bud Blood works, I buy the knock off version from ebay. 1O dollars for a pound! Works just as good.
Greenfuse â?? Organic plant stimulator. I like it.
I might include another bloom booster to replace my HPK, but that's still in the air. I'm also looking for a full micro-nutrient to brew with the tea. Or something to that regard. Reading the labels I noticed that Earth Juice doesn't include any copper in their microblast as I'm running into a copper problem right now. Honestly I've always ran into a copper problem. Never thought to look for some odd reason. So obviously micro-nutrients are at the forefront.
I don't need nutrients right now, as I still have a lot of EJ to use. But once a product runs out I'll replace it with one of these. If you have anything you want to chime in let me know.
Anyway ya'll be easy!319 Reviewed by 319 on . 319's Dirt Box My Official Log: In the silver lined tent with a 4x4 tray and 600w. I have Super Lemon Haze, Tangerine Dream, a few bags seeds and one Ice clone that I threw in there a week ago to see the possible deficiencies I might run into with my next tent. These were vegged from seed between 0-7 days. The white lined tent 4x4 with a 3x3 tray and 600w, is empty at the moment and will be filled with Ice soon (Tuesday). I follow this nutrient schedule with the addition of HPK from Roots Organic. Rating: 5
