    Best method of using mmj for insomnia?

    I have had severe insomnia for over a year, where I wake up during the night and can't fall back into "real" sleep.

    My doctor and psychiatrist have prescribed me all manner of pills, with mixed results. Ironically, they refuse to recommend mmj because of its harmful effects...but they are happy to prescribe all kinds of "legit" pharmaceuticals... which have some pretty f*ckin' harmful side effects! Hello....Seroquel?! Kidney damage and heart disease!

    I did get my mmj card from another doctor, and have found that Indica seems to help fairly well with my insomnia. BUT...

    It only seems to work for me if I smoke it. I'm not a smoker, and even after a year, I still get a terrible cough...whether I use a joint, pipe or bong. So I don't want to smoke my meds. Unfortunately, however, smoking seems to be the only method that hits me fast enough

    So my question is, which alternate method delivers mmj effects the fastest? I need it to kick in FAST -- when I wake in the middle of the night, I don't want to be up for an hour waiting for my buzz to kick in.

    So far, edibles don't work, because they take too long to kick in.
    Tinctures don't work for me, either -- the high I get is not a "sleepy" high. Same with my vaporizer (Iolite).

    I have heard that a THC liquid exists, which hits faster than tincture... but this can only be obtained with a prescription from a "real" doctor, at a "real" pharmacy. Obvioulsy, my "real" doc won't have anything to do with that...and my mmj doc has gone out of business So I guess that's out.


    Anyone have any experience/advice with this issue? All help is massively appreciated!

    Ever hear the terms earwax, wax, BHO, Butane Honey Oil??? This is an awesome concentrate to smoke from a skillet....you tube "earwax skillet" if you've never heard of it.... One phat hit is all you need to get back to sleep, or one small one, depending on your tolerance.... Hash works pretty good on a skillet too.... Just make sure you get concentrates derived from a pure indica strain and you should be good....

    You can make pure thc extract in the form of honey oil but it takes a LOT of bud to produce a small amount. It will hit you like RIGHT NOW but I find the buzz doesn't last as long but is much more intense initially similiar to hash. It's fairly easy to make but very illegal as it's a concentrate(don't know why).

    Smoking cannabis has a different psychoactive effect then eating it thus the more intense initial buzz from smoking. I haven't eaten much but a few people have told me they've eaten some things that were pretty powerful.

    I have bad insomnia as well where I can fall asleep all right, but wake up over and over in the night. Each time I wake up it is harder and harder to go to sleep. I have had to do several things to help change this, and they work most of the time. They are as follows:

    Prepare for the night ahead of time (be preemptive)by...
    ~No caffeine after 5pm
    ~go to sleep and wake up at a regular time most every day.
    ~have a nighttime routine that is the same every night. (I like to turn down the lights and have a relaxing tea before bed so I am in the right mindset for sleep).
    ~get some sun (mainly for the vitamin D) everyday (doesn't have to be a lot, just a few minutes here and there works)


    If I need to make sure I get a good night's sleep, I will take an edible ahead of time, not when I awake in the middle of the night, but about 2 hours before I go to sleep for the longest potency. I know you said that edibles do not kick in fast enough but perhaps you have not used them in a preemptive manner? (if I am wrong pls forgive ). If I wake in the middle of the night still, it takes a lot Less mmj to go back to sleep with (for example: have a quick short session with your mmj, take one or two hits off of a vape or I take one or two hits of smoke (though I know you are trying to avoid smoking) or take a few dropper fulls of a tincture (you might find it works different along with an edible).

    The idea with insomnia for me is to be preemptive, hence why I do all that I do to sleep through the night better than i ever had before.

    If I think of more things I will post them here.

    It doesn't take a lot of bud if you know the proper steps. First you run your ground buds through butane or oxygen or CO2 and get your honey wax. Then you let the plant material that is leftover soak in alcohol for many days and run it through a fractional distillation. This gets you your honey oils. With proper extraction gear you can reclaim about 85% original weight back and have tons of pure usable extract.



    There's my O-Chem pal with 200+g of pure butane wax.

    Caffeine stays in your system for 12 hours so generally a good rule of thumb is none after lunch.

    A hot epsom salt bath in the evening will help, I turn my phone ringer off at about 8 pm unless I'm expecting an important phone call, counting to 100 in your sleep helps as well it keeps your mind focused on the numbers and not whetever else you may be thinking about thats keeping you awake. If you like to work out be sure you finish about three hours before you go to bed, usually best to do in the morning anyway.
